St. Joseph's Hospital - London, ON
Full Time
Salary Range: $59.68 - $70.22 /hour


The Clinical Ethicist builds capacity in clinical ethical decision-making throughout the organization.

The role is a resource for ethical issues and dilemmas for health care professionals, hospital administration, patients and families and the community.

The Clinical Ethicist maintains current knowledge on regulations and trends focusing on clinical aspects impacting the organization's Mission, Vision and Values and participates alongside other ethics team members to ensure there is a structure and process for ethical discernment and principle-based decision-making.


Essential Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Philosophy, Bioethics or field of study concentrated on bioethics (i.e. law, theology, philosophy)
  • 1-year clinical ethics experience in a hospital or health care environment required (minimum 2 years of experience preferred)
  • Experience in faith-based health care ethics
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to meet the needs of patients, families and staff
  • Knowledge of a safety culture in a health care setting in compliance with the occupational health and safety act
  • Ability and commitment to act as a supervisor under OHSA
  • Demonstrated experience in critical thinking
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all disciplines at St. Joseph's
  • Extensive understanding and knowledge of principles, concepts and methods of health care ethics consultation
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to a shared leadership environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, emotionally charged atmosphere.
Teaching and Research
  • St. Joseph's Health Care London through its affiliation with Western University and Fanshawe College is a leading research and teaching hospital. As an employee of St. Joseph's, you will be expected to engage in role related teaching and research activities in addition to any of your clinical duties
Immunization Requirements
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
