Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.
The Manager, Academic Programs and Student Services oversees the strategic and operational management of Undergraduate (UG) Programs, Graduate and Professional Development programs in the College of Health Sciences, including but not limited to the Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc), the AI & Health Graduate Certificate and non-credit programming for working professionals.
The Manager will lead a team of full and part-time staff, ensuring excellent service to students and other stakeholders, strategically support and manage all facets of academic program delivery, oversee financial and human resource management, risk management, and build and strengthen partnerships, both internal and external to the University.
The first year of this role will focus heavily on the successful implementation of the Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc), a new, 4-year undergraduate program that will begin taking applications in Fall 2026, for program start in Fall 2027. This will entail the incumbent using their knowledge of and experience in academic programs, governance, teaching and learning and student services, and their understanding of best practices to ensure the successful launch of the BHSc program.
Leadership & Supervision
- Oversees staff within the Student Services unit, including student advisors and WIL coordinators.
- Mentors and coaches staff to foster a service-oriented environment that values students, staff, Faculty, parents, alumni, donors and the public.
- Provides regular feedback and annual performance reviews for direct reports and monitors feedback and reviews of indirect reports.
- Ensures appropriate training and development opportunities exist for staff.
Financial Management
- Develops realistic budgets and forecasts for all Academic Program areas, including the BHSc program, the AI & Health GC, teaching (instructors) and teaching supports, recruitment, international activities, and non-credit programming.
- Allocates and controls fiscal resources of the Unit to ensure proper budgetary control and accountability to the College and University.
Program and Course Management
- Directs the coordination of course scheduling, course offerings and space allocation for all academic programs administered by the CHS to ensure program requirements are fulfilled, courses are available for students and are conducted in appropriate spaces and rooms to optimize the student experience.
- Collaborates and liaises/liaise with faculties in confirming course offerings, schedules and enrolment.
- Regularly reviews enrolment reports and data to identify challenges and opportunities and adjust course offerings and/or schedule to meet the needs of the UG and Graduate programs.
- Ensures that all undergraduate and graduate courses have instructors and teaching assistants (TAs) assigned.
Governance and Calendar
- Working closely with the Academic Initiatives and Governance Officer (AI & G Officer) in the preparation of academic program proposals as directed by the Academic Director, ensuring accuracy and that timelines are met.
- Responsible for the administrative management of program reviews (as required), as well as task forces and ad hoc committees.
- Provides information, advice, reports and support to curriculum committees as required.
Enrolment Management & Admissions
- Works closely with the RO and the Provost Office throughout the admissions cycle to monitor and adjust when required to ensure enrolment targets for domestic, international and FMNI students are met each year, and TEE or other funding requirements are met.
- Provides regular briefings to the College Dean, College Associate Dean Education and the Academic Director, BHSc on enrolment progress, provides recommendations and implements decisions.
- Undergraduate degree is required; Master's degree preferred, in a related field such as health or business administration
- A minimum of 5 years in student services, advising, admissions, or related areas
- Extensive knowledge of the University of Alberta’s policies, procedures and operating requirements
