Laboratory Geneticist - Molecular Genetics

Department: Molecular Genetics
Engagement: Independent Contractor
Compensation: US$124,000-$174,000 annual contract compensation
Location: Remote - United States

About FlowLabs

FlowLabs operates Canada’s largest male fertility diagnostics network. The company maintains ISO 15189 Plus™ accredited operations, including two licensed laboratories, nine specimen collection centres, telehealth-enabled services, and established referral relationships with fertility clinics and physicians across Canada.

In collaboration with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), FlowLabs is establishing a clinical genetics program focused on male infertility and reproductive genetics. FlowLabs is also an active research organization with collaborations involving SickKids, the University of Toronto and Sinai Health.

We are seeking a U.S.-based Laboratory Geneticist to play a key scientific role in the development and implementation of this program.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in genetics, molecular genetics, genomics, molecular biology, or another relevant biological science and have appropriate postgraduate training and experience in clinical laboratory genetics.

Candidates must meet one of the following certification requirements:

  • Board-certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG); or
  • Certified or eligible for certification by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists (CCMG) in Laboratory Genetics and Genomic Diagnostics.

Candidates meeting either certification requirement are equally encouraged to apply. As the position supports clinical laboratory activities in Ontario, Canada, the successful candidate’s qualifications must meet applicable Ontario regulatory requirements for the clinical and scientific responsibilities assigned to the position.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in constitutional (germline) genetics, molecular genetic testing, variant interpretation and clinical laboratory reporting.

Experience in reproductive genetics or infertility genetics is particularly desirable. Experience in test development and validation, laboratory quality management and applicable accreditation requirements would be an asset. Experience in somatic genetics would also be considered an asset.

The Role

The Laboratory Geneticist will provide scientific and clinical expertise in molecular genetics and genomics, with a primary focus on constitutional (germline) genetics related to male infertility and reproductive health.

The successful candidate will participate in the development, validation, implementation, interpretation and ongoing scientific oversight of genetic and genomic testing and will contribute to FlowLabs' clinical and research programs.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include:

  • Interpretation and reporting of molecular genetic and genomic test results;
  • Variant interpretation and classification in accordance with applicable professional standards and guidelines;
  • Laboratory genetic case review and consultation;
  • Development, review and maintenance of laboratory standard operating procedures;
  • Scientific and technical oversight of molecular genetics laboratory activities;
  • Participation in the development, validation, verification and implementation of new genetic and genomic tests;
  • Participation in the laboratory quality management system and ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation and professional requirements; and
  • Participation in FlowLabs' research and development activities, including collaborative research with SickKids and other academic partners.

Work Arrangement

This is a U.S.-based independent contractor engagement, performed primarily on a remote basis, supporting FlowLabs' Canadian clinical laboratory and research activities. Periodic travel to FlowLabs' laboratory operations and collaborating institutions in Canada may be required.

Compensation

Annual contract compensation will range from US$124,000-$174,000, commensurate with qualifications, experience and the agreed scope of services.

As an independent contractor, the successful candidate will be responsible for their own taxes, insurance and benefits, subject to the terms of the final independent contractor agreement.
