WHAT ON EARTH IS DECIEM?
We are a collective of disrupters and doers, of creatives and scientists, with a mission to reimagine the world of beauty.
Since inception, our vertically integrated structure, including our own laboratories, manufacturing, retail stores, and brand infrastructure, have enabled us to rapidly identify opportunities and deliver quality. Home to The Ordinary, NIOD, AVESTAN, and other emerging brands, our goal is to create with purpose. We were founded on the principle of doing everything that others don’t. Because normal gets you nowhere.
We are DECIEM, The Abnormal Beauty Company.
We are growing rapidly and we’re looking for someone who shares this vision and wants to grow with us!
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a Clinical Research Scientist II - Delivery Sciences to join our Scientific team on a full-time and permanent basis. This position will be based out of our Head Office, located in Liberty Village, Toronto and requires candidates to be on-site 5-days a week. Candidates MUST be proficient with designing experiments for HPLC, UPL and Franz Diffusion.
PAY RANGE
The anticipated base salary for this position is $70,000 to $80,000.
Exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Salary range may vary based on geographic location.
WHAT YOU’D BE DOING IN THIS ROLE
- Design, execute, and evaluate IVPT and IVRT studies using Franz diffusion cells, ex vivo tissue, and artificial membrane-based models to understand active penetration and release rates of various treatments.
- Develop, optimize, and validate robust analytical separation methods (HPLC/UPLC, LC-MS, etc) to quantify and characterize active ingredients, demonstrating proficiency in Empower 3 software for data acquisition and processing.
- Understand and anticipate emerging analytical techniques and technologies to bring novelty in methods and understanding of the skin.
- Scour relevant scientific literature and routinely incorporate new insights into research activities.
- Identify and validate new third-party labs for outsourcing product testing, and work closely with existing third-party labs to carry out tests that might not be feasible in-house.
- Support daily laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, supply ordering, and coordinating shipments of materials or samples.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the timely resolution of analytical issues or gaps.
- Ensure all analytical activities adhere to GMP and GDP standards with strong documentation practices.
- Write, review, and approve SOPs and work instructions related to analytical procedures and laboratory operations.
- Lead or participate in quality event investigations (planned and unplanned), recommending effective corrective and preventive actions.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO GET THE JOB DONE
- Master's degree in Analytical Chemistry/Biochemistry or a related discipline with 2 years of industry experience, OR a Bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of clinical lab practices and skin science.
- Proven ability to effectively and independently design and plan experiments, prioritize tasks, and critically evaluate results under compressed timelines.
- Ability to apply standard scientific principles and make sound scientific judgments within the scope of the role.
- Excellent GMP documentation, organizational skills, and rigorous attention to detail and accuracy.
WHAT YOU’LL BE GAINING BY JOINING OUR TEAM
There’s a lot of good stuff that comes along with being a DECIEM team member. Here’s a few of our favourite perks and benefits, in no particular order…
- Generous Vacation & Personal Days, plus additional time off for volunteering in your community, voting, peaceful protesting, celebrating your birthday, and more.
- 6 months of paid time off for new parents (inclusive of all genders).
- Work from anywhere 4 weeks per year.
- A hybrid work model (for applicable roles).
- Summer Friday’s - get off at 1pm all summer long! (for applicable roles).
- A dog-friendly office (and lots of cute dogs to play with).
- Unlimited access to an Employee Assistance Program that includes mental health care, mindfulness programs, and more.
- Access to Development Grants & a LinkedIn Learning membership to help you keep growing and learning.
- A generous discount on DECIEM products for you, your family, and your friends.
