Full job description

Mountainview Safety Services is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse (RN) to provide clinical and occupational health support at the TransAlta Keephills Station near Edmonton, Alberta.

This position will provide on-site nursing support for a large workforce, with the primary focus being clinical assessment, treatment, and occupational health support.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and treating minor workplace injuries and illnesses, providing appropriate nursing interventions, maintaining accurate medical documentation, and determining when additional medical assessment or treatment is required. This is an excellent opportunity for an RN with occupational health, industrial, urgent care, emergency, or clinical experience who is comfortable working independently in an industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care and clinical support to employees and contractors on site.
  • Perform clinical assessments and determine appropriate treatment or follow-up.
  • Assess and treat common workplace injuries and medical concerns, including:
  • Eye irritation and eye exposures requiring assessment and irrigation.
  • Splinters and minor puncture wounds.
  • Cuts, abrasions, and minor lacerations.
  • Minor burns.
  • Soft-tissue injuries.
  • Other minor occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Provide wound care, dressing changes, and other appropriate nursing interventions within scope of practice.
  • Monitor workers presenting with illness, injury, or other health concerns.
  • Provide appropriate first-line clinical treatment and recommendations.
  • Identify conditions requiring additional medical assessment and coordinate referrals or transportation as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential medical records.
  • Complete treatment records, incident documentation, and other required occupational health documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with site management, workers, contractors, Mountainview Safety Services, and emergency response personnel.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked medical area.
  • Monitor medical supplies and communicate replenishment requirements.
  • Participate in site health and safety initiatives and comply with all client and site-specific procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and professional nursing standards.

Emergency Response: The primary purpose of this position is clinical and occupational health support. Emergency responsibilities may include clinical assessment, stabilization, treatment, and coordination of further medical care in conjunction with the site's emergency response resources.

Required Qualifications & Certifications:

The successful candidate must possess:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) – Mandatory.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • H2S Alive – Mandatory.
  • Common Safety Orientation (CSO) – Mandatory.
  • WHMIS – Offered in house with orientation.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) – Offered in house with orientation.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required TransAlta/site orientations and training.

Preferred Experience:

The following experience is considered an asset:

  • Occupational health nursing.
  • Industrial or oil & gas nursing.
  • Remote-site healthcare.
  • Emergency department or urgent care experience.
  • Workplace injury assessment and treatment.
  • Construction or major industrial project experience.
  • Experience working independently in a clinical environment.

Work Schedule & Conditions:

  • Approximately 45-day project.
  • 6 days on / 1 day off rotation.
  • 10-hour daytime shifts.
  • Work will be performed at the TransAlta Keephills Station near Edmonton, Alberta.
  • The successful candidate must be comfortable working in an active industrial environment.
  • Candidate must be able to work independently while maintaining effective communication with site leadership and emergency response personnel.

Pay: $32.00-$36.00 per hour
