Full job description
Donewell Property Services is looking for motivated, experienced, and dependable individuals to join our team for the 2026 summer season. We are currently hiring Landscaping Foremen / Lead Hands to help lead commercial and residential landscape construction projects while working alongside crews in the field.
This is a full-time seasonal position, with work averaging 160–200 hours per month, depending on workload, weather, and project schedule. For the right candidates, this role also offers the opportunity to transition into a long-term, year-round position as we continue into the fall and winter seasons.
About Donewell Property Services
Donewell Property Services is a growing, year-round property service company that takes pride in delivering dependable, high-quality work to our commercial and residential clients. We specialize in landscaping, lawn care, and snow services, and we are known for our strong communication, reliable service, and commitment to doing the job right.
At Donewell, we value team members who take ownership of their work, lead by example, and understand the importance of professionalism on every job site. We work hard to build strong crews, maintain a positive workplace culture, and create opportunities for employees who want to grow with the company long term. We are looking for people who not only have experience, but who also bring leadership, accountability, and a strong work ethic to the team every day.
Position Overview
As a Landscape Foreman / Lead Hand, you will be responsible for helping lead a crew of 2–4 team members on a variety of landscape construction projects. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires both field experience and the ability to direct, organize, and support a crew throughout each stage of a project.
Reporting to the Landscape Manager, you will be expected to maintain job quality, keep projects moving efficiently, and ensure your crew is working safely and productively. The ideal candidate is experienced in landscape construction, confident operating equipment, capable of reading job expectations clearly, and comfortable taking initiative on site.
This role is best suited for someone who takes pride in producing clean, professional results and can keep a team focused, organized, and motivated throughout the day.
Job Details and Requirements
Reliable Transportation
- Candidates must have their own transportation to and from work each day.
Punctuality, Reliability, and Work Ethic
We are looking for individuals who are punctual, dependable, hardworking, and detail-oriented. As a Foreman or Lead Hand, your crew will rely on you to set the tone each day. Being consistent, prepared, and focused on quality is a key part of succeeding in this position.
Team Leadership and Crew Collaboration
You must be able to work well with others and lead by example, as each crew typically consists of 2–4 staff members. This role requires strong communication, a positive attitude, and the ability to keep your team organized, productive, and working efficiently together on site.
Valid Driver’s License
Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and be comfortable driving a truck with a trailer. This position may require transporting tools, equipment, and materials to and from job sites, so confidence and experience towing a trailer is important.
Skid Steer Experience
Candidates must have skid steer operating experience and be able to use equipment safely and effectively on landscape construction projects. Experience with grading, material movement, site prep, and general machine operation is highly valued in this role.
Experience Required
We are looking for individuals with strong experience in multiple areas of landscape construction, including but not limited to:
- Patios
Experience installing patios using a variety of materials, while ensuring proper base preparation, grading, leveling, and final appearance.
- Retaining Walls
Knowledge of retaining wall installation, including site prep, base work, leveling, drainage considerations, and building structurally sound, visually appealing walls.
- Fence and Deck Construction
Experience assisting with or leading the construction of fences and decks, with an understanding of layout, measurements, material handling, and quality finishing.
- Landscape Lighting
Ability to install or assist with landscape lighting systems that improve both the function and appearance of outdoor spaces.
- Brick Work and Stone Work
Experience working with brick and stone in landscaping applications, with an eye for detail, proper placement, and clean final presentation.
- Final Grades
Understanding of final grading to ensure proper drainage, site readiness, and smooth project completion before finishing elements are installed.
- Edging
Experience installing landscape edging cleanly and accurately to create defined, professional-looking borders and separation between landscape features.
- Mulch Beds and Rock Beds
Ability to prepare and install mulch and rock beds properly, including weed barrier use, shaping, and achieving a neat, finished look.
- Tree and Shrub Planting
Knowledge of proper planting techniques for trees and shrubs, including placement, spacing, soil preparation, and care considerations.
- Sod Installation
Experience with sod prep and installation, including grading, soil prep, rolling, cutting, and leaving behind a clean, healthy finished product.
Responsibilities
- Lead and work alongside a landscaping crew on commercial and residential landscape construction projects
- Organize daily tasks and help ensure projects are completed efficiently and to company standards
- Maintain a high level of workmanship and attention to detail on every job site
- Supervise crew members, provide direction, and support team productivity throughout the day
- Operate trucks, trailers, skid steers, and other equipment safely and responsibly
- Ensure all work is performed in a safe manner and in compliance with company safety expectations
- Communicate with management regarding project progress, material needs, site conditions, and any issues that arise
- Help train and mentor crew members by leading through example and maintaining a strong work ethic on site
- Ensure job sites are kept organized, professional, and clean throughout the duration of each project
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate is someone who:
- Has strong hands-on landscaping and construction experience
- Is confident leading a crew and keeping projects on schedule
- Takes pride in producing high-quality work
- Is dependable, respectful, and professional
- Can problem-solve on site and adapt to changing job conditions
- Works safely, efficiently, and with a team-first attitude
Long-Term Opportunity
Donewell Property Services is a year-round service company, and this role may lead to long-term employment opportunities beyond the summer landscaping season. We value team members who want to grow with the company and contribute across multiple divisions as the seasons change.
