Job Description:

Now Hiring: Safety Advisor

Tkemlúps Contracting is part of Sc.wénwen, the Business Group of Tkemlúps te Secwépemc, and specializes in civil, industrial, and utilities construction, based out of Kamloops, British Columbia.

Tkemlúps Contracting is seeking an experienced Safety Advisor who is passionate about creating a culture where every worker returns home safely every day.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Safety Advisor is responsible for supporting the planning, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of Tkemlúps Contracting's Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Management System.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety Leadership

  • Promote and foster a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.
  • Mentor supervisors and workers on safe work practices and hazard recognition.
  • Lead by example and positively influence safe behaviours.
  • Support the development of project-specific safety plans.
  • Support the continued growth and development of corporate HSE programs.

Field Safety Support

  • Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits.
  • Verify compliance with company procedures and legislative requirements.
  • Participate in project kick-off meetings.
  • Ensure required safety documentation is maintained.
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance.

Incident Management

  • Lead incident investigations.
  • Identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Track corrective action completion.
  • Prepare reports for management and clients.
  • Monitor safety trends and recommend improvements.

Regulatory Compliance

Ensure company compliance with:

  • WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation
  • Workers Compensation Act
  • BC Mines Act and Mine Health, Safety and Reclamation Code (where applicable)
  • COR Audit Standards
  • Client-specific HSE requirements
  • Environmental requirements applicable to construction projects

Training & Orientation

  • Deliver new worker orientations.
  • Coordinate required safety training.
  • Conduct toolbox meetings and safety talks.
  • Assist with competency verification.
  • Maintain employee training records.

Program Development

Assist in maintaining and improving:

  • Safe Work Practices
  • Safe Work Procedures
  • Hazard Assessments
  • Emergency Response Plans
  • Risk Assessments
  • COR documentation
  • Safety statistics and KPI reporting

Qualifications

· Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or related discipline (or equivalent experience)

· Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience

· Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence

· Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations

· Experience with ComplyWorks , ISNet and other contractor systems as necessary.

· Experience conducting incident investigations

· Experience leading site inspections and audits

· Strong communication and leadership skills

· Excellent organizational and documentation skills

· Ability to work independently and in remote environments

Desired Qualities

· National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO)

· Construction Safety Officer (CSO)

· COR Internal Auditor or External Auditor

· First Aid Level 2 or 3

· Ground Disturbance Level II

· WHMIS Instructor

· Confined Space

· Fall Protection
