About the job
- You will make it possible for students with Acquired/Congenital Deafblindness to access information and interact within their environment.
- You will maintain the student's rights to privacy and dignity and ensure personal safety is not compromised at all times, recognizing the constraints inherent working within a school/lodging setting.
What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements
- Secondary School Diploma with a Diploma of Intervenor for Deafblind or Support Specialist program certification from a recognized educational facility and/or equivalent training;
- Current First Aid, CPR and Crisis Prevention Intervention Training and/or Behaviour Management Systems Training or equivalent.
Skills and Qualifications:
Your background and experience enables you to meet the following requirements:- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL);
- Knowledge of Braille and Large Print Notes;
- Experience working with students with sensory impairment/learning /physical disabilities, and has a background in child development;
- Knowledge of relevant legislation/policies/procedures/guidelines/practices that address student care and safety;
- Excellent communication skills to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and other professionals (i.e., Two Hand Manual Touch Cues, Concrete Cues and Picture Symbols);
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team;
