As part of the Child, Youth & Emerging Adult Program (CYEAP), Child, Youth and Family Services (CYFS) provides care and treatment to children and youth between the ages of 6 and 24. Clients and their families served by CYFS are offered specialized services and customized care across an inpatient, day treatment, and outpatient continuum of care. These services are closely aligned with our Research Centres including the McCain Centre for Child, Youth and Family Mental Health and the Cundill Centre for Child and Youth Depression.
CYFS is currently seeking a part-time, temporary (9 months) Case Worker (Child & Youth Worker/Counsellor) to work in the inpatient unit serving youth with concurrent disorders. The Concurrent Youth Unit, in CYFS serves provincial youth ages 13 to 18, with potential for up to 21, with moderate to severe addiction(s) to substances and accompany mental health issues.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Child, Youth & Family Services, and as a member of an interprofessional team, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing a range of specialized services to youth between the ages of 13 and 18, and potentially to 21 years of age. The CYC/caseworkers’ duties will include client and environmental assessments, patient care planning, intervention and care delivery, patient support toward goal achievement, care evaluation, family support, and development and facilitation of groups and other programming.
Your role will include supporting evidence based models of care and programming, such as Motivational Interviewing (MI) Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The role will be familiar with and supportive CAMH policies and processes. The supervision and support of clients will include classroom assistance. Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations, mental status and risk assessments, and understand stages of development. In your role, you will provide quality clinical documentation, engage in effective communication, and promote positive working relationships with other team members. You will have knowledge of crisis prevention and intervention, mental health and addiction issues, trauma-informed care, recovery, and family-informed care. As a member of an inter-professional treatment team, you will work collaboratively and contribute discipline specific knowledge, skills and services to the team. You will contribute to activities such as unit/program development, and will deliver services and programming in a manner that is safe, support student and volunteer placements, and you will support the program’s evaluation and research activities. You will value and engage in self-reflection and continuous learning. Your role will include support to clients in transition to other services and you will liaise with other services at CAMH and with community agencies, as required, to coordinate care for clients. You will sustain positive working relationships with internal and external partners. Supervision of Child and Youth professional students is expected. You will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. This position involves shift rotation, and this position is located at 80 Workman Way.
The successful candidates will have a three (3) year College Diploma in Child and Youth Care. Membership in the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counsellors in good standing is required. Experience with concurrent disordered youth in a substance abuse treatment program is an asset. You will have experience dealing with complex and challenging youth, and possess the ability to intervene in critical clinical situations. Strong skills in group facilitation, assessment, intake, individual support and working with families are necessary. Knowledge of best practice and evidence-based addictions and mental health treatment models is essential. Skills in motivational interviewing are an asset. Experience working in an interprofessional environment with youth is required. You will possess strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in an interprofessional team environment and superior communication skills (verbal and written). Demonstrated ability, knowledge and skills in concurrent disorders, clinical assessment and treatment, harm reduction, trauma-informed care, family-centered care, and evidence based treatment models. Experience in developing and delivering training workshops and contribute to capacity building initiatives would be extremely desirable. Computer literacy is required. You will have the ability to work with and provide culturally competent service to individuals of diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Salary Range: $32.36 – $38.68 per hour
