About the Opportunity
Children Matter Community Services (CMCS) is seeking compassionate, dependable Youth Support Workers to support children and youth in our staffed homes.

This role is about building relationships and helping young people feel safe, heard, and accepted. You will support daily routines, emotional regulation, life skills, and community involvement while encouraging each young person’s independence and amplifying their voice.

Our programs support youth with diverse abilities and complex emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs. We are looking for people who bring patience, sound judgment, and a willingness to understand the person behind the behaviour.

Our work is guided by our values of Integrity, Respect, Transparency, Advocacy, and Acceptance.

Children Matters is not just an organization; it's a compassionate force dedicated to creating a world where every individual has the chance to thrive. As advocates, guides, and champions of growth, we believe in a shared mission toward a brighter future. Join us in building a more equitable global society where the unique potential of each person contributes to a richer tapestry, ensuring that no one is left behind. If you are passionate about making a positive impact and fostering growth, Children Matters is the place for you.

What you will do

  • Build trusting, respectful relationships with youth and support their choices, goals, and participation in daily life.
  • Help youth develop life skills, including personal hygiene, cooking, shopping, money management, and personal safety.
  • Support emotional regulation, social skills, physical wellness, and healthy coping strategies.
  • Participate in assessments, goal setting, and care planning alongside the Residence Coordinator, Program Manager, youth, and their support networks.
  • Accompany or transport youth to school, appointments, recreation, employment, and community activities.
  • Recognize emerging safety concerns and respond calmly to distress, escalation, or emergencies using established protocols.
  • Administer, monitor, and store medications in accordance with CMCS policies.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive home environment and follow individual care plans and health and safety procedures.
  • Complete factual, respectful, accurate documentation and communicate changes or concerns to program leadership.
  • Contribute to a positive team through clear communication, reliable follow-through, and participation in training and staff meetings.

Who will thrive in this role

You are compassionate, patient, and dependable. You understand that relationships take time and can remain calm when a young person is struggling. You use critical thinking, adapt to changing needs, and balance empathy with clear, consistent boundaries.

You are comfortable with the practical responsibilities of working in a home and recognize that everyday moments—making a meal, attending an appointment, or listening after a difficult day—can make a meaningful difference. You welcome feedback, work collaboratively, and treat youth and colleagues with dignity and respect. You have a deep passion to make real impact and support growth.

Requirements:

  • A certificate or diploma in human services, mental health and addictions, early childhood education, health care assistance, or a related field.
  • Two years of recent related experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A Class 5 driver’s licence and a driver’s abstract that meets CMCS policy.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Ability to successfully complete the required Criminal Record Check and Ministry of Children and Family Development CCRC check.
  • Ability to carry out the duties of the position and work the required 12-hour shift rotation.
  • Valid MANDT, NVCI, and ASSIST considered an asset, but not a requirement as CMCS will support this training.

Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant education and experience supporting children or youth.
