WAYFINDERS MANITOBA inc.
Wayfinders is a community-based mentorship, tutoring and advocacy program for high-school students. Working in partnership with schools, Wayfinders extends the school day, offers additional supports to students working towards high-school graduation and transition to post-secondary studies. Student Parent Support Worker (SPSW)
Student Parent Support Workers serve as primary advocates for Wayfinders’ students at school and in community. Applicants should possess recent & relevant program planning and mentorship experiences working with youth and families in culturally diverse communities.
Desired Qualifications:
· Relevant experience in the past 5 years working with adolescent youth. This experience could include supporting educational outcomes, system navigation and program planning.
· Relevant post-secondary education supporting an understanding of adolescent youth, their families and caregivers.
· Relevant advocacy work within the education system.
· Knowledge of Indigenous, Newcomer, CFS, 2SLGBTQ+ and low SES communities and realities. Skills and knowledge in program development in some areas related to; anti-racism, leadership and service-learning, technology, cultural programming and cross-cultural experiences, health and healthy living, identity-affirming programming as well as nutrition.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail; strong teamwork and collaborative leanings are essential.
· Ability to build relationships, network and build program partnerships with a variety of community members, educators and organizations.
· Available to work a varied schedule; afternoons, evenings and some weekends with an ability to organize and prioritize work.
· Possess a valid driver’s license.
This is a full-time (35 hour/week) indefinite term position, with a comprehensive benefits package. Each Wayfinders SPSW is entitled to 15 vacation days annually including a 5-day program shut-down. Salary is according to the C.U.P.E. Local 2348 Collective Agreement, starting at $26.47 per hour.
