PROGRAM SUPERVISOR I – 3 to 5

Job Overview: The Program Supervisor I demonstrates strong leadership and organizational skills along with sound professional practices aligned with the BC Early Learning Framework. The Program Supervisor provides guidance to the Early Childhood Educators and day to day oversight of their learning including communicating with and building strong relationships with families. Working in partnership with the Program Manager, the Program Supervisor works in programs daily alongside Early childhood Educators.

Reports to:

The Program Supervisor I reports to the Program Manager.

Here’s how you will make a positive impact on a day-to-day basis:

  • Responsible for overseeing the operations a team of three Early Childhood Educators
  • Guide and care for a group of children ages infant to three years old
  • Fostering a strong sense of belonging, inclusion and collaboration
  • Planning, implementing, documenting and evaluating emergent curriculum that reflects the individual and group interests and needs of children and families
  • Providing for the health, safety and emotional well-being of children
  • Building and maintaining strong “shared caring” partnerships with families
  • Maintaining supportive, collaborative relationships with VSOCC colleagues and community partners.
  • Leading teams, supervising ECE professionals, upholding agency-wide policies/procedures and licensing regulations

In addition to being a wonderful and positive person & team player, you must have:

  • ECE basic certification (required). ECE Infant / Toddler certification & Special Needs Certification (an asset)
  • Child Care First Aid, Basic First Aid (previously OFA Level 1) & Food Safe Level 1 Certification. If you do not currently hold this certification, we still encourage you to apply. Successful candidates will need to obtain the certification prior to starting their role with VSOCC
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a licensed child care with infant and/or toddlers and 1 year of supervisory experience
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including excellent oral and written communication
  • Strong knowledge and awareness of:

o Child development and use of developmental screening tools

o BC’s Early Learning Framework and an emergent curriculum approach

o Family engagement strategies and parenting issues within a diverse community

  • Knowledge of leadership strategies, group process, facilitation techniques, team building and broader childcare field in community
  • Knowledge of supports & resources for families and for children with extra support needs
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and demonstrate good judgment
  • Responsible, reliable, well-organized, flexible, team player who loves learning and innovation
  • Functional computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel and Outlook

Additional skills and experiences may include:

  • A Second Language
  • Post-secondary education in related field

Terms of Employment:

  • Salary: $32.01 per hour plus employer-paid health and welfare benefits. In addition, you may be eligible for a Provincial ECE Wage Enhancement
  • Full-time 37.5 hours
  • Starting: As soon as possible
  • Location: International Village Children’s Centre – 3 to 5 Program
