Extended Care Assistant

Overview

Reporting to the Before and After School Manager, the Extended Care Assistant supports the delivery of a safe , nurturing, engaging and well organized Before and After School Program and midday support in alignment with Lauremont’s mission, Montessori principles, and applicable licensing requirements.

This position operates on a split – shift schedule and may provide support before school, during lunch periods, and after school. Responsibilities may include student supervision, program support, student transitions, attendance tracking, documentation, arrival and dismissal procedures, and other operational duties as required. This is a one (1) year contract.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Provide active supervision of students at all times, including arrival and dismissal procedures
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive and respectful environment
  • Support the daily operation of the Before and After School Program, student transitions and compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA)
  • Facilitate age appropriate indoor and outdoor activities
  • Assist with lunch supervision and dining hall coverage; assist with snack preparation and program materials
  • Maintain accurate attendance and required documentation
  • Participate in meetings, training and professional development
  • Sanitize toys and materials once per week
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

The Extended Care Assistant is:

  • A self-motivated team player with a passion for working with children
  • An advocate for and committed to the protection and rights of each child and recognizes, as well as accepts, the unique qualities of each child; recognizes that they are a role model for children and, as such must model exemplary behaviour at all times
  • Able to communicate openly and effectively with all team members by sharing thoughts and observations about the children and the classroom environment
  • A professional committed to being present at work on all required work days in order to provide the consistency needed by each child

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year’s experience working with young children
  • Demonstrates a passion for working with children in a team teaching environment
  • Ability to work independently, self motivated and within a team setting
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills, with the ability to be flexible
  • Punctual, reliable and consistent attendance
  • A desire to learn about Montessori pedagogy
  • Montessori training and/or early childhood educators are preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and internet research
  • A satisfactory current Vulnerable Sector Check
  • A satisfactory current Child Welfare Record Check from CAS
  • Current First Aid CPR, and AED

The hourly rate for this position is $21.89.
