Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate and energetic Jr. Kindergarten / Preschool Teacher to inspire and nurture young learners in their early childhood development journey. In this vital role, you will create a warm, engaging classroom environment that promotes curiosity, social-emotional growth, and strong foundations in literacy and numeracy. Your enthusiasm and dedication will help shape the minds of tomorrow while ensuring each child feels valued, safe, and excited to learn.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to grow your teaching practice within a supportive educational community committed to excellence in early childhood education. At this time, the exact location and start date is to be confirmed. We are opening a new location in Beaumont, but current staff are shuffling around so this position could be at either of our other centres. If you have a preference for location please let us know.

Our Program: “Play with Purpose” (School-Style Learning)

Our classrooms are intentionally designed to feel like a school environment: structured, calm, and predictable, while still being joyful and play-based. We follow a Play with Purpose approach, meaning every activity has a clear learning goal and builds skills through hands-on experiences, small-group instruction, centres, and guided play. Each day includes whole-group learning where all students participate in the daily curriculum objectives together (morning meeting/carpet time, shared literacy and numeracy instruction, read-alouds, and community-building routines), followed by targeted practice through small groups and centre-based learning. We have morning and afternoon classes.

Literacy & Numeracy (Foundational Skills)

Our learning model supports children through intentional instruction and meaningful play-based learning:

  • Literacy: oral language, vocabulary, phonological awareness, early phonics/letter-sound learning, fine motor readiness, early writing, comprehension, and a love of books
  • Numeracy: number sense, counting, quantity, patterns, sorting, early logic, shapes, spatial awareness, measurement, and problem-solving through hands-on materials

We also integrate movement and physical development daily, and may incorporate Montessori-inspired materials and routines where appropriate.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead monthly themes, including lessons, learning centres, crafts, and activities tied to theme-based learning.
  • Incorporate diversity-focused learning and cultural holidays in a respectful, age-appropriate way that supports belonging and community.
  • Foster a positive classroom atmosphere through effective classroom management and behavior support that encourages cooperation, independence, and respect.
  • Support children’s social-emotional development by teaching emotional expression, problem-solving, friendship skills, and conflict resolution.
  • Provide early support and early intervention strategies for children with special needs or developmental delays, in collaboration with leadership and families (when applicable).
  • Observe, document, and assess children’s progress.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding each child’s progress, development, and any concerns, professionally and compassionately.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating classroom environment that meets childcare regulations and supports healthy child development.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure strong program consistency, quality, and a positive team culture.

Requirements

  • Prior experience working with children in preschool or daycare settings is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of child development and early childhood education best practices.
  • Familiarity with curriculum development, lesson planning, and classroom management (including Montessori approaches).
  • Experience supporting children with special needs or in early intervention settings is an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with parents, colleagues, and children.
  • Advanced English speaking and writing skills are required (clear communication, correct grammar, and professional writing).
  • Ability to use assessment methods when applicable to track progress and inform instruction.
  • Level 3 Child Care Certification, First Aid certification, and a record check within 6 months of hiring date are all mandatory.

What We Offer

  • A structured program and resources that support you (you won’t be expected to create everything from scratch).
  • A professional, school-like learning environment that values consistency and quality.
  • Training, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth.
  • A joyful workplace where children learn through curiosity, creativity, confidence, and purposeful play.
  • The hourly wage range noted is our starting wage for new teachers, and includes the top-up wage.
