Chief Financial Officer Commissionaires North Saskatchewan Company Overview

Commissionaires North Saskatchewan is Northern Saskatchewan’s largest provider of security services to the government and private sector. We are a proud not-for-profit company with a social mandate to provide meaningful employment to former members of the Canadian Forces, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and others who wish to contribute to the security and well-being of Canadians.

We have approximately 1000 employees working at sites throughout Saskatchewan.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is an important member of the senior leadership team and will act as an advisor to the CEO and the Board of Directors by providing business and financial expertise that has an impact and influence over business objectives and opportunities. The CFO plays a hands-on leadership role across finance, and administrative functions, ensuring strong financial management and controls, including leading the budgeting and reporting processes, representing the company on financial matters to external stakeholders and managing the company's investment portfolio. The CFO leads the finance department, which includes all finance personnel, accounting and payroll staff.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial reporting and Governance:

  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements and reporting to the audit committee.
  • Coordination of the annual review of the financial statements and act as the primary liaison with the accounting firm
  • Oversee development of corporate policies on financial, budgetary, internal controls and procurement matters, and monitor compliance.
  • Implement policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of accounting, financial and payroll processes, systems and databases and their compliance with federal and provincial legislation regarding taxation and statutory deductions.

Day-to-Day Financial Oversight

  • Maintain close oversight of day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records
  • Oversee key processes including reconciliations, general ledger integrity, and transaction-level review
  • Step into detailed financial work when required to maintain continuity and accuracy
  • Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, financial reporting, and compliance
  • Manage accounts receivable and payable processes to ensure effective cash flow management
  • Ensure payroll processes are accurate, compliant, and efficiently administered
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies
  • Perform month-end and year-end close processes

Financial management: 

  • Provide business and financial analyses and advise on matters with potential implications for the financial health of the company.
  • Conduct negotiations and coordinate revisions on the National Master Standing Offer with the federal government.
  • Coordinate preparation of the annual budget
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis
  • Manage the company's investment portfolio in accordance with the Board policies

Leadership:

Provide sound leadership, management, guidance and coaching to a small finance staff.

· Set priorities, delegate effectively, and ensure alignment across team responsibilities

· Foster a collaborative, respectful, and accountable team environment

SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED

A degree and a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA). Minimum of 5 years as a senior manager overseeing one or more financial functions. Excellent knowledge of accounting principles, cash management, payroll services and financial/cost analysis techniques. Excellent knowledge of federal and provincial taxation and employment standards legislation pertaining to employee wages and benefits.

Pay: $95,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
