Position Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Position Summary

High-tech manufacturing company in downtown Toronto is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will be responsible for the overall financial leadership, operations, and stewardship of the organization. As a member of the executive leadership team, the CFO develops and executes financial strategies that support sustainable growth, operational excellence, manufacturing optimization and long-term profitability.

The ideal candidate will oversee all aspects of accounting, financial planning and analysis, budgeting, treasury, taxation, risk management, financial reporting, information systems related to finance, and internal controls. This role partners with senior leadership to improve operational efficiency, optimize pricing, manage costs, and support expansion initiatives while ensuring compliance with Ontario and Canadian financial regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the organization's mission, vision, and business objectives.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team.
  • Oversee daily operations, develop strategic plans and control budgets to optimize business growth
  • Evaluate business marketing opportunities and partnerships.
  • Provide financial analysis to support executive decision-making.
  • Participate in long-term strategic planning and organizational development.

Financial Management

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and long-term financial planning.
  • Prepare rolling forecasts and cash flow projections.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and strategic goals.
  • Recommend corrective actions to improve financial performance.
  • Develop financial models to support operational and strategic initiatives.

Financial Reporting

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure financial reporting complies with Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE)
  • Present financial results and key performance indicators (KPIs) to senior leadership and ownership.
  • Maintain accurate and timely financial records.

Accounting and Internal Controls

  • Direct all accounting functions, including:

- General ledger

- Accounts payable and receivable

- Payroll

-Inventory and cost accounting

  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls and financial policies.
  • Coordinate external audits and reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and corporate policies.

Manufacturing and Operational Finance

  • Develop and monitor product costing methodologies.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs, labour efficiency, and material utilization.
  • Monitor vendor relations, inventory valuation and turnover, and obsolescence.
  • Support pricing decisions through detailed profitability analyses.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Evaluate capital equipment purchases and technology investments.

Treasury and Cash Flow Management

  • Manage cash flow and working capital.
  • Maintain relationships with financial institutions.
  • Oversee banking, financing arrangements, and debt management.
  • Monitor liquidity requirements and investment opportunities.
  • Optimize working capital through effective management of receivables, payables, and inventory.

Taxation and Regulatory Compliance

  • Oversee corporate tax planning and compliance.
  • Ensure timely filing of all statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements, payroll regulations, and applicable provincial legislation.
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors and legal counsel.

Risk Management

  • Identify financial, operational, and strategic risks.
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee insurance coverage and claims management.
  • Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
  • Maintain financial governance practices that safeguard organizational assets.

Leadership and Human Capital Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish departmental objectives and performance metrics.
  • Promote employee development and succession planning.

Information Systems and Technology

  • Oversee financial systems, manufacturing systems, ERP platforms, and accounting software.
  • Support digital transformation initiatives that improve financial reporting and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure financial data integrity, security, and reporting accuracy.
  • Collaborate with technology and operations teams on system implementations and process improvements.

Qualifications

Education

  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  • MBA or other advanced business qualification is an asset.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive financial management experience.
  • At least 5 years in a senior financial leadership position.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, healthcare, dental, medical technology, laboratory services, or a related industry is preferred.
