CEFA (Core Education & Fine Arts) is a leader in early childhood education, offering a unique and enriched academic curriculum designed to foster intellectual, emotional, and social development in children. Our programs integrate reading, mathematics, writing, drama, science, visual arts, music, and yoga to stimulate brain development and nurture creativity and critical thinking. CEFA programs go far beyond traditional childcare, offering full-day early learning and junior kindergarten programs that help children reach their full potential.

Position Summary

The chef plays an essential role in supporting CEFA’s commitment to nurturing the health, wellness, and happiness of every child. This position is responsible for preparing nutritious, child-friendly meals and snacks that align with CEFA’s menu and overall philosophy of healthy living. The Chef ensures all food preparation and service meet the highest standards of quality, cleanliness, and safety while contributing to a warm and welcoming school environment.

Key Responsibilities

Meal Preparation & Planning

  • Prepare and serve two daily snacks and one hot lunch for all students
  • Follow CEFA’s established menu plan and collaborate with the School Principal on updates
  • or adjustments
  • Prepare alternative meals for children with allergies, sensitivities, or dietary restrictions
  • Cook meals from scratch using wholesome, fresh ingredients
  • Ensure all meals are visually appealing, nutritious, and age-appropriate

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all CEFA food safety procedures and maintain a high standard of hygiene at all times
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment
  • Ensure safe storage, labeling, and rotation of food items (FIFO method)
  • Comply with all internal health, hygiene, and safety policies

Inventory & Record Keeping

  • Monitor and maintain inventory of food and kitchen supplies
  • Order supplies in coordination with the Principal or administrative team
  • Maintain accurate records of food supplies, orders, and waste
  • Implement cost-effective purchasing and portion control practices

Collaboration & School Support

  • Work collaboratively with the Principal and teaching staff to support special events or celebrations
  • Communicate with staff regarding children’s dietary needs and restrictions
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented atmosphere within the school

Qualifications

  • Passion for child nutrition and preparing balanced, appealing meals
  • Food Safety Certification or equivalent training (required)
  • First Aid Certification (preferred)
  • Culinary training or experience in large-scale or institutional cooking
  • Experience working in a school, childcare, or similar environment (an asset)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Clear communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must pass a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position
  • Work schedule: Monday to Friday, daytime hours
  • Ability to work independently in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Occasional flexibility required for school events or special occasions

Salary and Benefits
