Full job description

We are seeking to hire an apprentice Cobbler for a local, family-owned, single location, Fourth Generation shoe repair business. The business has been located in Vancouver for more than 45 years, with TWO award-winning Cobblers in-house. Open Mondays to Saturday, 8am-5pm. Located on Venables Street, halfway between Clark and Commercial Drive.

We train from the ground up, as it's not a common profession. No experience is required.

What we look for:

You would have an interest in shoes/repair/working with your hands/etc.

Must be willing to ask questions, make mistakes and be patient while learning the trade.

Apprentices usually start at 3 days a week for the first 6 -12 months or so.

Most apprentice cobblers start out with basic maintenance of the shop, machinery, and administration.

We try to progress to the point of being able to speak with customers (in person, over email, and on the phone), take in shoes (via Mail Orders and In Person drop offs), and shoe pick ups (in person/mail out) by the end of the probation period (3 months).

Depending on skill level, interest, and hours worked we want to build up to a point where you specialize in certain repairs that help us produce at a high level for our customers.

After the probation period we re-assess your work at Quick Cobbler and slot you into an appropriate job position. Then, provided your performance reviews are satisfactory, you can expect annual wage increases of 5%-8%. We also offer profit sharing, paid annually around Christmas time.

As with any trade, we are seeking people interested in long-term employment (assuming one enjoys the job!). Seeking someone who can follow instructions well, and problem solve when required. Please indicate if you have any related previous work experience, skills, interests or hobbies!

We offer fair wages, skills training, holiday bonuses and a great team of coworkers. On Saturday mornings before opening, the staff is offered free shoemaking education.

Pay: $19 per hour for the first 12 months.

Bi-Annual Performance reviews, annual pay raises (based on performance reviews), holiday bonuses (profit sharing). Additional perks include access to our library of shoe making and repair educational material and use of shop machinery and products.

Hours: 8am-5pm. Shop is open Monday-Saturday.

Please provide some idea of your availability.

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent, Apprenticeship

Pay: $19.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Company events
  • On-site parking
  • Profit sharing
  • Store discount

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Vancouver, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Application question(s):

  • Do you have previous Shoe Repair experience?
  • Do you have previous experience, skills, or interests related to repairing, leather working and customization of items or products?
  • Shoe repair can be physically demanding. You would need a certain level of dexterity and endurance. We stand all day, work in a loud, and sometimes hot and dirty environment. All safety measures are taken, but we want to know if this will bother you or prevent you from working here?

Language:

  • English (required)

Work Location: In person
