Chateau Nova Yellowknife & Nova Inn Yellowknife | Yellowknife, NT
Are you ready to lead People & Culture in the Land of the Aurora?
Nova Hotels is a Canadian, family-owned and operated hotel group with 13 full and limited-service hotels across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories. At Nova, hospitality starts with people. We care about creating comfortable stays for our guests, memorable events for our clients, and a supportive workplace for our teams.
Whether we are helping a guest settle in, supporting a team member, coaching a leader through a tough conversation, or solving an operational challenge, our team shows up with care, accountability, and a willingness to find a way.
Nova Hotels is looking for an experienced People & Culture Manager to support two of our Yellowknife properties: Chateau Nova Yellowknife and Nova Inn Yellowknife.
This is a hands-on HR leadership role for someone who enjoys being close to the operation, building trusted relationships with leaders and team members, and helping hotels run smoothly through strong people practices.
About the Role
As the People & Culture Manager, you will act as the primary HR partner for both Yellowknife properties. You will work closely with General Managers, department leaders, and associates across all departments to support recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, workplace culture, compliance, and retention.
This role is ideal for a practical, people-focused HR professional who can balance empathy with accountability. You are comfortable coaching managers, resolving employee concerns, supporting compliance, and navigating the realities of a dynamic hospitality environment.
You understand that great guest experiences start with great teams, and you are ready to help leaders build workplaces where people feel supported, expectations are clear, and challenges are addressed fairly and consistently.
What You’ll Do
- Act as the primary People & Culture partner for Chateau Nova Yellowknife and Nova Inn Yellowknife
- Support General Managers and department leaders with day-to-day HR guidance and people-related decisions
- Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding for both properties
- Ensure new hires complete required orientation, documentation, and safety training
- Support workforce planning, scheduling-related people needs, training, and retention initiatives
- Coach leaders through performance concerns, difficult conversations, attendance issues, and team management challenges
- Provide fair, consistent, and practical support for employee relations matters
- Help resolve associate concerns while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and appropriate documentation
- Support performance management processes, including coaching, expectations, follow-up, and corrective action
- Lead employee engagement initiatives and partner with operations to strengthen workplace culture
- Support compliance with Northwest Territories employment standards, occupational health and safety requirements, and company policies
- Maintain accurate HR files, records, and documentation
- Support WSCC claims, incident reporting, return-to-work coordination, and safety-related follow-up
- Respond to associate inquiries related to immigration-supported employment pathways and coordinate employer support requests where appropriate
- Partner with Corporate People & Culture on policies, programs, reporting, and other HR initiatives
- Complete other related duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of progressive Human Resources experience
- Hospitality, hotel, multi-unit, or operational HR experience is a strong asset
- Knowledge of Northwest Territories employment standards and occupational health and safety requirements
- Experience supporting recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and workplace investigations
- Familiarity with immigration-supported hiring programs, such as LMIA or PNP, is considered an asset
- Ability to navigate the unique challenges of the Northern labour market with a practical, solutions-focused mindset
- Strong communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to build trust with leaders and associates while maintaining professional boundaries
- Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential information appropriately
- Strong organization and follow-through
- Ability to balance empathy, fairness, and firm accountability
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced hospitality environment
Key Strengths for Success
- You care about people and understand the impact strong HR support has on the workplace
- You build trust with leaders and team members through fairness, consistency, and follow-through
- You are practical, calm, and solutions-focused when challenges come up
- You can support employees with empathy while helping leaders maintain clear expectations
- You lead by example through professionalism, confidentiality, and accountability
- You understand that strong culture is built through everyday actions, not posters on a wall
- You are willing to jump in, problem-solve, and support the operation where needed
What We Offer
At Nova Hotels, you will be part of a supportive, team-oriented workplace where people look out for one another and take pride in creating great guest and client experiences.
We offer:
- Competitive salary
- Meal program
- Extended health benefits for full-time employees
- Employee discounts in our food and beverage outlets
- Staff rates at Nova Hotels across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories
- Friends and family hotel rates
- Opportunities to learn, grow, and build your hospitality career
Eligibility
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
We thank all applicants for their interest in Nova Hotels. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
