Chartered Professional Accountant

Remote, Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and client-focused Chartered Professional Accountant to join our growing team. This role is ideal for an accounting professional with experience in Canadian taxation, payroll, bookkeeping and financial reporting who enjoys working directly with clients and helping internal businesses stay compliant while achieving their financial goals. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of client files, prepare tax returns and financial statements, support business advisory services and ensure timely regulatory compliance.

CPA designation in good standing is required. Candidates must currently hold the appropriate public accounting licence and be authorized to sign Compilation Engagement reports under applicable CPA regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file Corporate Income Tax Returns (T2) accurately and within statutory filing deadlines.
  • Assist clients with corporate incorporation, business registration, and ongoing corporate compliance requirements.
  • Prepare and file annual corporate returns and maintain corporate records to ensure compliance with regulatory obligations.
  • Prepare, review, and file GST/HST returns while ensuring timely remittances and compliance with applicable tax regulations.
  • Prepare Personal Income Tax Returns (T1) for individuals, sole proprietors, and shareholder-managed corporations.
  • Prepare and file T4 and T5 information returns, including the preparation of related slips, summaries, and supporting schedules.
  • Conduct tax planning engagements and provide recommendations to optimize tax efficiency for individuals and corporate clients.
  • Calculate and monitor personal and corporate income tax installment requirements.
  • Respond to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) reviews, notices, assessments, and correspondence, and assist clients in resolving tax-related matters.
  • Prepare budgets, cash flow forecasts, financial projections, and projected financial statements for management reporting and financing purposes.
  • Assist in business valuation engagements by compiling financial information, performing analytical reviews, and preparing supporting documentation.
  • Prepare financial statements, schedules, and lender packages required for business financing, loan applications, and credit facilities.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll cycles, ensuring compliance with payroll legislation, source deductions, and statutory remittance requirements.
  • Configure, administer, and support QuickBooks Online Payroll systems for client payroll operations.
  • Liaise with clients, CRA representatives, financial institutions, and internal stakeholders to address accounting, tax, payroll, and compliance matters.
  • Analyze existing processes and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency, financial reporting accuracy, and overall client service delivery.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and professional practice requirements.
  • Provide ongoing advisory support to clients regarding accounting, bookkeeping, taxation, payroll, and corporate compliance matters.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • CPA designation (CPA Canada) completed.
  • Additional tax, payroll, or bookkeeping certifications are considered an asset.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in public accounting, tax, or corporate accounting.
  • Proven experience preparing and filing T1, T2, GST/HST, T4, and T5 returns.
  • Experience handling CRA correspondence, audits, reviews, notices, and client inquiries.
  • Experience preparing financial statements, budgets, cash flow forecasts, and financial projections.
  • Experience with corporate incorporations, annual returns, and corporate compliance filings.
  • Experience processing payroll and managing payroll remittances and statutory deductions.
  • Exposure to business valuations, financing applications, and financial analysis is considered an asset.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Canadian Income Tax Act, GST/HST regulations, and CRA compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting and tax software such as QuickBooks Online, CaseWare, TaxPrep, Profile, Cantax, or equivalent.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, data analysis, and financial modeling.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online Payroll and cloud-based accounting systems.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian payroll legislation and reporting requirements.
