POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Communications & Marketing Coordinator, Advancement is responsible for supporting communications and marketing initiatives managed by the Advancement office. This position works closely with the Director of Advancement to establish and maintain contact with all external and internal audiences of the College. In this role, the ability to learn, understand and articulate the College’s story, and deliver it on multiple platforms honoring the academic and Catholic dimensions of the College is key.

The Communications & Marketing Coordinator is responsible for supporting the College’s communications and marketing tools and platforms, and preparing materials to support fundraising activities. The Communications & Marketing Coordinator also works with the Director of Advancement to support efforts to advance the whole College such as advertising and marketing the College’s Academics programs and other areas as needed such as the SJC Residences.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

Communications and Marketing

● Responsible for SJC Brand standards including review and application, and ensuring standards are applied to all materials produced by the College

● Design, develop, coordinate and produce College print, electronic and online communications tools including but not limited to newsletters, brochures, academic and event posters, and other materials such as displays, swag and promotional items

● Work with the Director of Advancement to write, produce and deliver compelling and effective fundraising materials such as appeal letters, brochures, proposals, website copy, presentations, etc.

● Responsible for the SJC Website which is set up on the U of A Cascade platform including working with the Director of Advancement to determine direction and performing regular and ongoing updates, as well as new builds

● Manage the College’s social media presence, including Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), Linkedin and other channels as identified including story identification, post production and account monitoring

Fundraising Event Support

● In addition to communications support for fundraising materials, the Communications & Marketing Coordinator will participate as an Advancement team member supporting all fundraising events such as the annual Spring Breakfast, Alumni events, and special events as developed for initiatives such as the 100 Year Anniversary and others into the future

Administrative Support

● Provide administrative support and services as required by Advancement for all communications and marketing services

● Arrange meetings and schedules of events and calendars for the office

● Act as a point of contact for general inquiries into the Advancement Office from all College stakeholders

● Other tasks as assigned within the office

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

This position requires the ability to think strategically while delivering hands-on, on-the-ground results in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

Specific requirements include:

● Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong interpersonal and organizational skills

● Strong verbal and written communication and storytelling skills with a high level of attention to detail

● Demonstrated design skills with the ability to take a project from concept to completion (traditional and online platforms)

● Computer proficiency with Microsoft and Google applications

● Technical proficiency and familiarity with a variety of communications and marketing platforms and the willingness to continue to train and learn new skills (specific platforms currently in use include Constant Contact email delivery, Adobe Illustrator and/or Canva, Web Program Cascade)

● Post-secondary training, diploma or degree in a related field

● 1-3 years of experience

SCOPE:

This position requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to positively interact with all audiences of the College with maturity, diplomacy, and respecting confidentiality at all times. The Communications & Marketing Coordinator will foster a commitment to teamwork and excellence, contributing to a climate of positivity, professionalism, openness and respect, and exemplifying the St. Joseph’s College mission and identity at all times.

This position has no direct reports but from time to time may interact and direct student volunteers or assistants in Advancement.

As a Support Staff member and member of the Advancement team, some evening and weekend hours may be required.
