Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Addictions Counsellor to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide specialized support to individuals struggling with addiction, helping them navigate recovery and develop effective coping strategies. This role involves working closely with diverse patient populations, including children and adolescents, within hospital or clinical settings. The Addictions Counsellor will play a vital role in delivering patient-centered care, conducting assessments, and facilitating treatment plans to promote long-term recovery. Candidates should possess strong communication skills, empathy, and a solid understanding of medical terminology and case management principles.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ addiction histories and current needs
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with healthcare teams
  • Provide counseling sessions to support patients through recovery processes
  • Assist with case management, including coordinating care with other medical professionals
  • Collect and analyze data related to patient progress and treatment outcomes
  • Support patients in developing relapse prevention strategies and life skills
  • Work with children and adolescents, utilizing age-appropriate approaches when necessary
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions and treatment plans in compliance with healthcare regulations
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review patient progress and adjust care strategies accordingly
  • Stay informed about current research and best practices in addiction treatment, pediatrics, and special education when applicable

Experience

  • Experience in patient care, case management, or research related to addiction or pediatrics is preferred
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and data collection methods relevant to healthcare environments
  • Background working within hospital or healthcare settings enhances understanding of patient care protocols
  • Knowledge of special education principles can be beneficial when working with young patients requiring tailored interventions
