Job Description

Private treatment centre is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, part-time (with possibility full-time positioning) Addiction and Mental Health Counsellor to join our Residential Facility team located in Aurora, ON.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide counselling and support to clients
  • Facilitating groups for clients and/or their families as required
  • Assist clients with individualized comprehensive Discharge Plans
  • Client Intake Procedures
  • Conduct urine screening for new clients and at intervals throughout the course of treatment
  • Reporting to the management and senior staff members
  • Work with a multidisciplinary services team
  • Monitor client behaviours and interactions while on shift, documenting observations and interactions in a timely and accurate manner
  • Communicate in an empathic, compassionate, sensitive and skilled manner with clients while on shift
  • Provide written documentation of events at the residence by end of each shift as well as incident reports as necessary
  • Participate in regular interdisciplinary team meetings when necessary
  • Make referrals to internal and/or external programs or services, as appropriate
  • Inform manager of any crisis situation
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum education: college diploma specific to addictions and mental health training and an addiction counselling certificate (eg: ICADC from CACCF)
  • Knowledge of social work, psychology and addiction counselling best practices and a proven ability to work in an intensive, residential treatment environment
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience working as an addictions and mental health counsellor
  • Residential experience is an asset
  • Current First Aid and CPR training certificates
  • Suicide Prevention and Crisis Intervention training is an asset
  • Able to work independently and provide detailed and accurate daily reports.
  • Maintain knowledge, skills, and abilities by keeping up to date regarding professional standards through reviewing current literature, attending workshops/seminars and networking with colleagues.
  • Must be able to legally work in Canada
  • Candidates must be able to have access to transportation
  • Must be registered with a college or institution.

Willing to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Police Check
