Our client is looking for an experienced and hands-on Assistant Body Shop Manager to join our management team. This is an active, floor-level leadership role where you will work closely with approximately 50 shop employees — including technicians, welders, and general labourers — to deliver high-quality repairs and refurbishments on time. You will report directly to the VP of Operations and play a key role in day-to-day shop execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support approximately 50 shop employees including technicians, welders, and general labourers
- Allocate and monitor work assignments to ensure jobs are completed on time and to quality standards
- Oversee body and collision repairs — from parts ordering and intake through to final inspection — ensuring work aligns with estimates
- Coach, mentor, train, and when necessary counsel shop employees
- Manage and optimize repair, maintenance, and refurbishment bay scheduling
- Maintain accurate repair order flow and document progress in workflow tracking systems
- Report all shop activity, issues, and performance updates directly to the VP of Operations — no decisions made on assumptions
- Collaborate cross-functionally with finance (invoicing, accounts receivable) and purchasing/materials (vendor orders, payments)
- Uphold and promote a safety-first culture throughout the shop
Must-Have Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in body repair and/or heavy-duty vehicle assembly
- 10+ years of direct hands-on experience in an automotive, truck, or body shop environment
- Strong working knowledge of body/collision repair — frames, parts, job execution against estimates
- Proven people management skills: motivating teams, handling conflict, and building trust
- 100% transparent and accountable — you report everything up the chain, no filtering
- Solid understanding of shop floor processes, scheduling, and quality control
Nice to Have:
- 310B Certification (or equivalent collision/body shop experience that demonstrates depth)
- Experience with workflow or repair tracking software
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word and basic Excel
This is not an estimating or client-facing role. No transit bus experience is required — candidates from truck, automotive, and collision backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary & Financial:
- $80,000 – $100,000 annually based on experience (flexibility for the right candidate)
- Group RRSP plan with employer matching — eligible after 90 days
- Comprehensive health and dental benefits, fully company-paid from day one
Perks & Allowances:
- Annual $1,000 tool allowance
- Bi-annual $200 boot allowance
- 100% tuition reimbursement for professional development

- Summer Flex Fridays: shifts end at 12:30 PM all summer long
- Full closure between Christmas and New Year's Day
- Vacation accrual begins in year one
