The Woodlands Accountant acts as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to operations leadership. Supported by Canfor’s broader Finance – Wood Products Canada group, this role provides relevant, accurate, and timely financial information and analysis to support decision‑making, performance management, and the continuous improvement of the business.


This is a highly visible, senior role that goes beyond traditional accounting. You will leverage your financial management experience to influence outcomes, support operational excellence, and help drive the long‑term success of our Grande Prairie Fibre – Operations.


The anticipated start date for this position is in September 2026.


A day in the life of the Woodlands Accountant includes:

  • Act as the primary finance business partner to the Fibre Operations leadership, providing timely, relevant, and actionable financial insight to support operational and strategic decision‑making.
  • Act as the key point of contact for operations on all financial matters, building strong, credible relationships and influencing outcomes through data‑driven analysis.
  • Lead the timely and accurate completion of the monthly financial close for woodlands operations, ensuring integrity of results and adherence to corporate standards, policies, and GAAP.
  • Facilitate the forecasting process and support annual budgeting and longer‑term planning, working closely with operational leaders to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results; explain variances, identify trends and risks, and recommend actions to improve performance.
  • Partner with operational teams to support cost control, productivity improvement, capital planning, and cost/benefit analysis for key initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of operational and manufacturing practices to effectively translate financial information into business‑relevant insights.
  • Contribute to standardization, continuous improvement, and strengthening of financial processes, controls, and reporting.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to other junior finance and accounting team members as required.
  • Other Finance and/or Fibre Operations duties and responsibilities as required.


For this role, you’ll come equipped with:

  • 5 years of experience in an accountant role, preferably within the forest products industry or a related operations / manufacturing environment.
  • Completion of post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration/Commerce, or similar. Candidates with their accounting designation (CPA) will be given preference.
  • Ability to multi-task and drive multiple initiatives forward;
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft 365 suite of applications, most importantly Excel.
  • Practical experience working with ERP systems. Proficiency with JDE and other Oracle systems would be an asset.
  • Detail oriented, analytical, highly motivated, a self-starter;
  • Ability to utilize tools and systems to find, extract and analyze required data;
