Full job description

CANES Community Care is a not-for-profit organization that assists clients with tasks in the home, providing emotional and social support, while helping seniors take part in the life of their community. We provide services in the Etobicoke, Brampton, Malton, Woodbridge, Mississauga and Halton areas in the Ontario Health Central Region.

The Maintenance Technician will be required and is directly responsible for providing small minor home maintenance repairs to clients' homes and is required to report any incidents or possible hazards identified in the client’s home. The Maintenance Technician must maintain regular communication with office and report any unsafe issues to the Manager

Shift: Part Time - Must be available every MON, WED, FRI x 7hrs per day totaling 21hrs per week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ability to carry out small minor home repairs
  • Installation of home safety materials (e.g. hand rails, grab bars, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, etc.)
  • Ability to perform window washing duties
  • Required to be equipped with tools to perform required tasks
  • Performs home inspection of the client’s home prior to the start of Home Maintenance service
  • Supervises on site projects when required
  • Facilitates problem-solving related interaction with clients regarding organizational policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
  • Drive CANES’ vehicle to and from clients homes as directed by the Supervisor, Home Maintenance
  • Assists in matching clients with suppliers in close collaboration with the Team
  • Visits clients homes with Handy Person to investigate client concerns about repairs/installation
  • Responsible to ensure that safety measures are taken when carrying our required duties
  • Report any incidents or possible hazards identified in a client's home to the Supervisor, Home Maintenance promptly and follow up with an incident/event report
  • Represents CANES Community Care in a positive and professional manner
  • Responsible to participate in annual training sessions
  • Refer home safety products for clients
  • Contribute to a culture of client safety and employee Health and Safety, by complying with all safety practices of the organization, reporting unsafe practices and adverse events, and acting on safety recommendations.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have good interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with clients, community organizations, and workers
  • Class G Drivers license and own a vehicle
  • Clear Drivers Abstract
  • Presentation skills required/public speaking an asset
  • Ability to compile reports, update distribution material
  • Previous professional or personal experience with seniors
  • Demonstrated sound judgment
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including proper telephone etiquette
  • Excellent priority management and time management skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure utilizing effective problem management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite products
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of team
  • Fluency in English, second language an asset
  • Clear Police Reference Check
