Full job description

Our client is hiring a Customer Sales Representative, an internal customer service and order management role supporting the sales team. You will enter and manage retailer orders in the company's ERP system, handle communication around orders and order flow allocations, and follow up on payment. This is not an outbound sales role. Any outbound contact is communication only, never selling. The company distributes toys, collectables, party goods and Halloween costumes, accessories and decor. Your customers are B2B retailers, from big box and national chains to regional and mom-and-pop shops, plus e-commerce and seasonal pop-ups. Leads are not part of this role, and you carry no assigned book of accounts. The sales focus is order processing and customer service rather than new business or account management. The company is adding salespeople and needs customer service to support the sales they bring in. You will report to the VP of Sales. The base salary is $60,000 to $65,000 CAD, plus bonus.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Base salary: $60,000–$65,000 CAD
  • Bonus: eligible for the corporate bonus program, there is no commission.
  • Full-time salaried position

THE COMPANY & CULTURE

Our client is a Scarborough, ON-based distributor founded around 1971, with about 55 years in business. It is a scale-up structured as a partnership, with 30 employees company-wide and 24 at the Scarborough location. The company distributes toys, collectables, party goods, and Halloween costumes, accessories and decor to retailers across Canada and parts of the U.S. It represents top toy and collectables manufacturers with exclusive selling rights in Canada (and some U.S.). Customers include Wal-Mart, Amazon, Canadian Tire, Party City, Loblaws, Staples, Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, Mastermind and Indigo. The company calls itself a community with a goal of serious fun. Company-wide turnover is under 10% and average tenure is 5 to 10 years. The team works by the mantra: Follow Up, Follow Through, Finish the Job.

OFFICE LOCATION & SALES TERRITORY

  • Office: Scarborough, ON, Canada
  • Work Arrangement: Office-Based, 5-days a week.
  • Territory: This is an internal role with no field territory. Customers are retailers across Canada and parts of the U.S.

EXPERIENCE, BACKGROUND & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • 2–5 years of B2B customer service or order-processing experience in a product environment (CPG-like)
  • You have dealt with retailers or trade customers rather than end consumers
  • You are familiar with multi-SKU environments, such as distribution (for example electrical or plumbing supply distributors serving contractors and end users), and understand SKU management. You are not expected to have memorized the product portfolio.
  • Good organizational skills and decent communication skills
  • A positive attitude and approach, and you work well as part of a team
  • No prior knowledge of the ERP system is expected

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Basic Excel (pivot tables are not expected but are a plus)
  • ERP system experience is not required. Training on the company's ERP system (Exenta) is provided.

THE PRODUCT / SERVICE / SOLUTION

  • Toys, collectables, party goods, and Halloween costumes, accessories and decor
  • Exclusive Canadian selling rights (and some U.S.) for several top toy and collectables brands

PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS / INDUSTRY FOCUS / DECISION MAKER(S)

  • Retailers wherever toys, collectables and party goods are sold: big box, national, regional, and mom-and-pop shops, plus e-commerce and seasonal pop-ups
  • Customers across Canada and parts of the U.S.
  • Industry backgrounds that fit: CPG and consumer goods distribution, multi-SKU B2B trade distribution, and wholesale or retail-facing customer service and order desks

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

  • Depth of product offering and exclusive brands
  • Fast order acknowledgement and order turnaround
  • Technology

TYPICAL DAY & DUTIES

  • Enter orders into the ERP system when they are not processed automatically through the website, and decipher website orders as they come through (about 60% of the work)
  • Process order-entry and other requests from the salespeople (about 30% of the work)
  • Manage customer service information and communication around orders and order flow allocations
  • Request payment on orders. Specialty customers get 30-day terms where credit allows, and others pay by credit card.
  • Interact with retail customers on payment and logistics (about 10–15% of the work). The role does not handle customer complaints for the most part, and any outbound contact is communication, not selling.
  • Work in the ERP system day to day and learn the SKU structure well enough to look up unfamiliar products

LEADS

  • This role does not involve prospecting or cold calling. You have no assigned book of accounts. Orders come through the website and from the sales team.

SUPPORT & TRAINING

  • You are trained on the company's ERP system (Exenta) after hire
  • You are not expected to know the system or to have memorized the product portfolio before you start

WHY YOU SHOULD APPLY

  • This is a non-selling seat: there is no commission and no quota, and you do not carry a book of accounts
  • Eligible for the corporate bonus program, usually around 10% of base salary, with stretch if company milestones are exceeded
  • Company-wide turnover is under 10% and average tenure is 5 to 10 years
  • You support a sales team that is growing, and you work with exclusive toy and collectables brands and customers such as Canadian Tire, Indigo and Shoppers Drug Mart
  • A community culture with a goal of serious fun, and the company provides full ERP training
