Job Summary

This is a rare opportunity to build and lead a robotics, design, and makerspace program from the ground up. DPS is investing in a long-term vision for STEM and Applied Design, Skills and Technologies (ADST) education. We are seeking an educator and maker who is excited to inspire students to design, create, problem solve, and innovate through hands-on learning. With dedicated resources, leadership support, and the freedom to shape the program, you will have the opportunity to create a flagship learning experience that grows for years to come. The right candidate is a maker at heart: someone who is genuinely excited to design, prototype, break things, and build them better alongside students. Whether your background is in education, engineering, technology, computer science, robotics, trades, or another related field, you thrive on creating engaging learning experiences and turning ideas into reality.

What You'll Do

  • Teach credit-bearing ADST courses aligned to the BC curriculum across Grades 8–12, with Robotics and Design as the key areas of focus.
  • Design and run our makerspace as an active, project-based learning environment.
  • Develop engaging, competency-based units and assess student work against BC standards, including the engineering design process and the engineering notebook.
  • Lay the groundwork for a competitive robotics team (VEX), beginning with skill-building and prototyping, and growing toward competition as the program matures.
  • Foster a studio culture of curiosity, iteration, teamwork, and perseverance.
  • Contribute to the wider life and values of the school community.

What We're Looking For

Required

  • BC Teacher Regulation Branch certification, or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in robotics, electronics, coding, engineering, fabrication, design, making, or a related field.
  • A builder's mindset: comfortable learning new tools, troubleshooting on the fly, and modelling the design process for students.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and community of Dasmesh Punjabi School.

Strong assets

  • Experience with the VEX platform and/or coaching a competitive robotics team.
  • Familiarity with the BC ADST curriculum and competency-based assessment practices.
  • Experience teaching middle and secondary grades.
  • A background in engineering, computer science, industrial design, trades, technology education, or a related discipline.
  • Willingness to grow into an extracurricular team-coaching role as the program develops.

What We Offer

  • The rare chance to build a signature program.
  • A purpose-built makerspace and dedicated funding for tools, kits, software and platforms.
  • Inclusive: In keeping with the principles of Sikhism, we welcome talented individuals from all religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Practicing Sikhism is not a requirement.
  • Supportive: Our educators enjoy a reduced workload, with dedicated time for preparation and grading.
  • Benefits: Competitive pay, paid vacation, medical benefits, RRSP, extracurricular club bonuses, and professional development opportunities.
