AVSS is a Canadian aerospace company and the global leader in guided and unguided parachute recovery systems for drones. AVSS is expanding its product offerings with new products and end-to-end solutions for dual-use applications. These new products and end-to-end solutions include energetic delivery systems for avalanche mitigation, motors for small drones, and threat detection systems for ground robots.

The Production Engineer serves as the critical link between the Engineering and Production teams, ensuring a smooth transition of products from design and testing into manufacturing and assembly. This role is responsible for developing production processes, supporting product launches, improving manufacturing efficiency, and ensuring that engineering requirements are accurately translated into production documentation and procedures.

The Production Engineer works closely with design engineers, test engineers, and production personnel to ensure products are manufactured safely, efficiently, and consistently while meeting quality and performance standards.

Responsibilities and Duties

Engineering-to-Production Transition

  • Coordinate the handoff of new and revised products from Engineering to Production.
  • Review product designs, drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and test requirements to ensure manufacturing readiness.
  • Develop and maintain production documentation, including work instructions, assembly procedures, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Ensure production teams understand design intent, assembly requirements, and quality expectations.
  • Support pilot builds, prototypes, and first production runs to validate manufacturing processes.

Manufacturing Process Development

  • Design, implement, and improve assembly and manufacturing processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize production flow.
  • Develop tooling, fixtures, and production aids as needed.
  • Establish process controls to ensure consistent product quality and repeatability.

Production Support

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for production personnel.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing and assembly issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Work with Engineering to resolve design-related production challenges.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Quality and Compliance

  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with quality standards and engineering specifications.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
  • Assist in developing inspection criteria and quality control procedures.
  • Support documentation control and change management processes.

Qualifications and Skills

Need to have:

  • 8+ years of experience in high-tech, aerospace, medical, or a like.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (e.g., Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing principles, process control, and statistical analysis.
  • Must have experience with embedded systems and Design for Manufacturing
  • Demonstrated experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion).
  • Experience with various manufacturing techniques (e.g., assembly, testing, soldering, optical alignment) through coursework or internships is a plus.
  • Excellent English communications (written and verbal) to communicate effectively with peers and stakeholders across the organization
  • Excellent time-management, multi-tasking, and communication skills

Nice to have:

  • A background in aerospace, robotics, and/or automotive manufacturing
  • Experience with embedded systems, industrial product development
