Primary Care Paramedic Graduate (AEMCA) Needed for Specialized Medical Centre

We are looking for a part-time Hyperbaric Chamber Operator (with a view toward full-time hours). As a Hyperbaric Chamber Operator, you’ll leverage your acute care and emergency response skills in a highly specialized clinical setting. Working within a hyperbaric medicine team, you’ll ensure the safe operation of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) chambers for patients with conditions such as chronic wounds, radiation tissue damage and sudden sensorineural hearing loss. This role combines technical expertise with patient-focused care in an environment that prioritizes precision and safety.

Your experience in triage, patient monitoring, and handling life-threatening situations translates seamlessly into the safety-focused, clinical setting of hyperbaric medicine. The successful applicant will be comprehensively trained within our organization to fulfill key responsibilities of the role.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operational Expertise:

  • Prepare and operate hyperbaric chambers according to established safety protocols.
  • Perform daily maintenance checks, troubleshoot equipment issues, and adhere to manufacturer guidelines for chamber operation.

2. Patient Management:

  • Conduct pre-treatment screenings to assess patient suitability for HBOT.
  • Monitor patients during treatment, ensuring comfort and addressing complications such as barotrauma.
  • Provide education to patients and families on treatment plans and post-treatment care.

3. Emergency Readiness:

  • Utilize paramedic skills to handle acute incidents such as oxygen toxicity or patient distress during treatment.
  • Maintain knowledge of emergency protocols specific to hyperbaric environments, including decompression and evacuation procedures.

4. Team Collaboration:

  • Work alongside physicians, nurses, and wound care specialists to ensure integrated care.
  • Contribute to the development of individualized patient treatment plans.

5. Administrative Tasks:

  • Document treatment sessions, equipment checks, and patient progress in compliance with medical records standards.
  • Participate in training, certification renewals, and continuing education to stay updated on hyperbaric medicine advancements. Skills & Qualifications:
  • Required Certifications: Background as a primary care paramedic (AEMCA), or similar acute care provider is highly valued.
  • Knowledge of hyperbaric physiology, pressure-related injuries, and the principles of HBOT would be considered an asset (additional training will be provided to the successful candidate)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse patients and medical professionals.
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and adaptability in high-pressure environments.
