The Job – Lead Contents Technicians

At On Side, Cleaner Packers, also known as Contents Technicians show up every day with a can-do attitude and desire to help. This team does vital work helping clients save precious possessions and memories with empathy, compassion, and hard work. When disaster strikes, Contents Technician teams are deployed to restore order out of chaos and clean up the aftermath. Working on site and in the On Side warehouse means no day or disaster is ever the same.

The Lead on this team reports to the Manager and helps with the day-to-day on-site direction of the team. Leading communications with Project Managers, Adjusters and trades, communication skills are a necessary requirement of the job.

Lead Contents Technicians are responsible for:

  • Leading and providing direction to the team
  • Communicating with cross-functional teams and clients
  • Working with customers to restore personal and commercial items to pre-disaster state
  • Packing and cataloging contents from disaster affected areas and creating inventory lists
  • Cleaning contents and structures
  • Cleaning fabrics and textiles

What you bring:

  • Previous industry experience
  • Ability to start leading the team right away
  • Experience using Encircle
  • Capability to take ownership of the jobs at hand
  • Open schedule to work overtime as required
  • Ability to work out of town when required
  • You love people and have great communication skills
  • An optimistic outlook and a real desire to help, including cross training to help in all departments
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Physically fit (ability to lift, carry and pack boxes, move furniture)
  • Willingness to follow all company safety requirements including wearing full PPE as required
  • Valid driver’s licence & clean drivers abstract
  • Clean criminal record

Other stuff that’ll help you be successful:

  • You genuinely enjoy working with people in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both written and verbal

Of Note

Disasters can strike at any time so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after hours on-call work is a requirement.

Application question(s):

  • Are you physically fit? Can you lift 50lbs and walk upstairs when required? Are you capable of repetitive heavy lifting? Moving equipment, furniture and boxes are the norm in this position so being physically capable is a requirement.
  • Are you able to work a Rotating On-Call Schedule (Responding to emergency calls after business hours)? This is additional to scheduled daytime hours as per the schedule. Premium and overtime is paid.
  • Cross training is required for this role. Successful candidates will be trained in Water Damage, Demolition, Remediation, and other departments as required. Are you able and willing to train and work in other roles?
  • Are you able to work later than scheduled when required? A job often requires an additional hour or two of overtime to be fully complete. Being available to work a bit extra to get the job done is helpful (vs returning the next day for a quick finish). Overtime is paid.
  • Are you willing to travel out of town for in-house work?
  • Restoration work can be dirty. Flooded basements and sewer backups are the norm. Are you able and willing to work in these conditions?
  • Are you ready to take on responsibility as a Lead and have the confidence to start right away, OR, will you need more time to adjust to the role. Please explain.
  • Do you consider yourself to be tech savvy? This position is 80% paperless and operating software, phones, tablets, etc will be mandatory.
  • Are you a good communicator? This job requires in-depth discussions with homeowners and co-workers. Being patient and calm is a must.

Experience:

  • Leading a team in the Restoration Industry: 1 year (preferred)
  • Encircle (Restoration Software App): 1 year (preferred)
  • Contents Technician industry: 1 year (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Full Unrestricted Canadian Driver's License (required)
