Reporting to the Regional SIU Manager - Prairies, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Investigator will conduct a wide variety of specialist investigations in accordance with client requests while adhering to all governing policies, client protocols, and company requirements, and make recommendations based on findings. All investigations must be conducted in a professional manner and maintain strict confidentiality, ethics and integrity at all times This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to high-impact projects and grow your career in a dynamic, supportive environment. We are currently hiring for two casual, part-time SIU investigator positions - one based in Calgary and one in Edmonton. Candidates must reside in Alberta and be available to travel throughout the province as required to support investigative assignments.


These roles are ideal for experienced investigators seeking flexible, as-needed work. As casual positions, there are no guaranteed hours, and schedules will vary based on operational requirements. Please note that these are not full-time positions and are intended for candidates with relevant investigative experience. This is not an entry-level opportunity.


What You Will Do:


  • Offer timely and quality best-in-class experience and services to our clients and customers.
  • Maintain client relationships and provide ongoing communication, insights, and updates.
  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct investigations, including identifying and interviewing police and civilian witnesses and obtaining detailed statements.
  • Gather, preserve, and analyze evidence in accordance with applicable laws, rules of evidence, and SIU operational policies.
  • Engage and coordinate external experts for forensic examinations and evidence collection.
  • Conduct inspections of collision and arson scenes, including vehicles and structures.
  • Document scenes through photography, measurements, and detailed observations.
  • Collaborate with claims adjusters, examiners, appraisers, and managers to provide updates and recommendations.
  • Produce accurate, detailed notes and reports in accordance with Xpera’s protocol and practices.
  • Perform quality control on reports, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and proper formatting.
  • Attend court or legal proceedings as required.

What You Will Bring:


  • Post-secondary education or equivalent combination of post-secondary education and relevant work experience
  • 10 or more years of investigative experience in regulatory, workplace, insurance claims, and theft investigations.
  • Experience in law enforcement is an asset.
  • Must hold a valid Private Investigator licence in the province of employment or be eligible to obtain one prior to commencing employment is a definite asset.
  • A valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.
  • Knowledge of all levels of the Canadian court system, criminal and civil code in Canada, insurance law, privacy legislation, and evidence collection.
  • A strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially with Word and Excel.
  • Exceptional communication and written skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle difficult conversations and confrontational situations with professionalism, tact, and sound judgment.
  • Strong ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures in the conduct of investigations.
  • An ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • An ability to work under pressure to meet demanding timelines while maintaining focus on the task at hand.
