JOB TITLE: Packaging and Shipping Operator (Day Shift - 3 Months Contract)

Location: Mississauga

Hourly Rate - $21.50 - $22.50

We are currently looking for a Packaging and Shipping Operator to join our busy and growing manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will be engaged in elevating the department and company to the next level. The incumbent will be forward looking and thrive in a culture of continuous improvement.

You will be provided with the coaching and training needed throughout the onboarding and orientation process that will build from your base of skills acquired from your past experiences.

General Accountability:

Reporting directly to the Assigned Shift Supervisor, the role of Packaging and Shipping Operator will provide general support related functions based on assignment within any production area.

Key Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Label packages with relevant shipping and handling information, including addresses, barcodes, and fragile-item warnings, etc.
  • Material handling
  • Ensure adequate stock of packaging materials and reorder supplies as needed
  • Maintain an organized packaging and shipping area to ensure efficient operations
  • Organizing product
  • General housekeeping
  • Properly wrap, box, and seal products to prevent damage during transportation
  • Operate forklift (only if certified) or pump truck to load and unload all products entering or leaving the company, as necessary
  • Operate a hoist in a safe manner (only after proper training)
  • Monitor and update inventory records for shipped items
  • Cross-functional and cross-department training/support when required
  • As well as all other duties as assigned by the department or assigned shift supervisor including duties under General Support Operator
  • Participate and maintain proper housekeeping 5S standards

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to handle physical tasks such as lifting, bending, standing for long periods, and performing repetitive motions while packaging items
  • Able to communicate in English both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively with other departments such as inventory management, customer service, and warehouse teams to ensure smooth and efficient operations
  • The ability to create shipping labels, track packages, and update records digitally
  • Demonstrated ability to operate material handling equipment including forklift truck
  • Efficient in prioritizing tasks to ensure timely and accurate processing of shipments
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior related experience preferred
  • Forklift certification preferred
  • Working experience in manufacturing environment
  • Lean Manufacturing training and experience an asset
