E-Commerce Growth Designer
Contract: Full-time, 12 month term
Location: Remote
Rate: $45 to $50 CAD per hour
Hours: 40 per week
About the Role
You will own the Web Design and conversion performance of a Shopify storefront with a large catalogue of one-time and recurring revenue
The successful candidate will be able to equally produce web design of high visual quality, as well as prove through controlled experimentation that the design work increases revenue.

Responsibilities
Design and Implementation
- Produce wireframes, high-fidelity designs, and interactive prototypes
- Own and extend the design system across Shopify sections, templates, and email
- Work directly in Shopify: Liquid, sections and blocks, theme settings, metafields, and metaobjects
- Design for multiple targeted customer bases
Experimentation
- Maintain a prioritized roadmap using a documented scoring framework
- Define primary, secondary, and guardrail metrics
- Configure, QA, and launch variants
- Create scoring systems to validate results
Requirements
Design
- 5+ years designing commercial websites, with a portfolio demonstrating strong visual craft on shipped work
- Advanced proficiency: design and system documentation
- Hands-on Shopify theme experience
- Demonstrated experience building a design system in a live commercial environment
- The ability to articulate the reasoning behind decisions to a non-design audience
Experimentation and Analytics
- 3+ years running A/B tests on live commercial sites
- Hands-on experience with a testing platform
- Experience with session replay and behavioral analytics
- Applied understanding of experimental statistics
General
- Ability to clearly write experiment documentation to track results
- The temperament to report a losing result accurately and revise your position when evidence contradicts it.
- Self-direction. The roadmap will be yours to build and defend.
- Evaluation rests on four dimensions: visual quality of shipped work, volume of adequately powered tests completed, integrity of reporting, and demonstrable business impact.
Example of Milestones
Month 1. Written audit of the storefront, tracking implementation across all properties, design system state, and performance profile, with opportunities ranked by expected value. Measurement gaps identified and prioritized. First experiment live.
Month 3. Scored backlog of 30 or more hypotheses. Reliable cross-property measurement in place and validated against platform revenue. Testing cadence established and sized to available traffic, with template-level tests carrying the volume. Experiment repository operational and in use.
Month 6. Validated improvements to product template conversion and to movement up the price ladder. Measurable performance gains on core templates. Visible elevation in design quality across primary surfaces.
Month 12. Measurable improvement in revenue per visitor against the baseline established at contract start. A documented body of insight about how our customers evaluate and buy. A design system and experiment repository your successor can operate without you.
Candidates advanced to the next round will be asked to submit the following:
- Portfolio. Web work you designed, with the reasoning behind the decisions.
- Two experiment write-ups. Hypothesis, control and treatment, primary metric, sample size, runtime, result with interval, and conclusion.
- One experiment that failed, and what you took from it. Applications without this are set aside.
- A short note on how you would run a testing program across a large catalogue where individual product pages carry thin traffic.
