Description
Search conducted by Placemaking 4G at p4g.ca on behalf of Colbr Consulting Inc.
Colbr Consulting Inc. is committed to building an intentional workplace grounded in accountability, equity, dignity, and personal growth. We believe that effective leadership is not about rigid authority, but about providing the clarity, psychological safety, structure, and support that allow people and operations to thrive.
We recognize that traditional hiring practices and corporate structures have historically created barriers for many talented individuals. We are actively working to build transparent, compassionate, and fair practices that welcome diverse lived experiences, background pathways, and working styles. We recognize that equity and equality are not the same thing, and everyone requires unique forms of accommodation and support to perform at their best, in an environment where individual circumstances are respected, never weaponized.
We strongly encourage applications from people who identify as 2SLGBTQ+, Black, Indigenous, racialized persons, women, newcomers to Canada, and people with disabilities. If you meet the core leadership mindset and feel aligned with the values and responsibilities of this role—even if you do not hit every single credential listed—we encourage you to apply.
Accessibility matters deeply to us. Accommodations are available throughout the application and interview process, and you are welcome to let us know what supports will help you participate fully.
To ensure an equitable and human-centred search, Colbr Consulting Inc. has partnered with Placemaking 4G (P4G) to conduct this process with clarity, fairness, and care.
Colbr Consulting Inc. is a women-owned and operated archaeology firm, dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in archaeology and cultural resource management (CRM). As a family-run business, we take a collaborative, socially conscious, and community-focused approach to heritage preservation, ensuring diverse perspectives are integrated into every project.
Today, Colbr Consulting is recognized as an industry leader with specialized expertise in mechanical testing for Archaeological Impact Assessments (AIAs).
We are committed to excellence, efficiency, and practical solutions, making us a trusted partner for both large- and small-scale projects. Our expertise ensures that archaeological assessments and development projects are conducted responsibly, balancing preservation with progress.

We aren’t there yet, but we’d like any new team members to contribute to our evolving culture based on the following.
We are building a culture where:
- Decency and Boundaries can Coexist: Difficult conversations are handled directly, and with kindness at the forefront, with the outcome being a timely, clear resolution.
- Systems Enable Autonomy: Clear SOPs and structured workflows provide our people the role and decision-making clarity needed to succeed independently where possible, and knowledge of when escalation is required.
- Leadership Builds Leadership: Performance management is continuous coaching, helping team members understand what they want for their futures and build capabilities while keeping them accountable to their commitments today.
This Moment, This Position
Colbr is seeking a full-time, office-based General Manager – People, Assets & Operations to lead day-to-day people management and operational execution across the company, with responsibility for team performance and accountability, workload and resource coordination, the day-to-day execution and follow-through of project and operational deliverables, policy and process adherence, training and compliance, and company assets and fleet management.
Our CEO/Senior Archaeologist spends significant time in the field leading high-level technical, regulatory, client, and strategic initiatives. The General Manager will act as Colbr’s daily operational anchor, driving end-to-end delivery, team accountability, and workflow consistency across the organization so strategic goals are systematically translated into daily results.
Working in close operational partnership to our COO, you will provide leadership across people, operations, asset integrity, and workflow, creating accountability and ensuring our office and lab operate effectively. You will also directly supervise and activate the team, maximizing impact within the office, lab operations and field.
You are a structured, approachable, and firm operational leader who thrives on building practical systems, enforcing fair boundaries, and creating order out of operational complexity.
People Management, Coaching & Culture
- Act as the primary in-office manager and daily supervisor for all archaeological, lab, field, and operational teams, building a culture of personal responsibility, reliability, and prompt follow-through.
- Lead structured 1-on-1s, probationary reviews, and continuous performance coaching—setting clear goals, development priorities, and measurable outcomes aligned with job descriptions.
- Support and guide team members in their day-to-day work, clarify expectations, encourage improvement, and establish clear next steps when needed.
- Help team members build self-reliance and problem-solving skills to foster internal capability and decrease unnecessary escalations upward. Foster a culture of open communication, collaboration, and accountability, creating an environment where people feel supported while understanding what is expected of them.
Operational Execution & Workflow Management
- Maintain day-to-day oversight of project and operational deliverables across fieldwork, lab, reporting, and administration, ensuring capacity scheduling aligns with project schedules, priorities, and deadlines are actively tracked to completion.
- Allocate team time and company resources effectively, delegating responsibilities based on capacity, experience, and project priorities while maintaining clear accountability for outcomes.
- Oversee established quality control standards, safety policies, and documentation practices across all field and office operations. Identify workflow bottlenecks or resource gaps and take swift action to resolve them.
Assets, Fleet & Equipment Management
- Oversee the condition, maintenance, and organization of company assets, ensuring they are well maintained, accessible, and ready for use.
- Ensure clear systems and responsibilities for the management of vehicles, trailers, field and MATS equipment, GPS units, cameras, IT hardware, phones, tools, PPE, and other company assets.
- Establish and oversee preventative maintenance, inspection, servicing, registration, and tire management schedules for the fleet.
- Maintain clear processes for field equipment to be returned clean, fully charged, inspected, repaired, and properly stored for immediate redeployment.
- Track equipment damage, loss, or misuse, following up and establishing accountability measures where appropriate. Develop lifecycle, replacement, and procurement schedules for core assets, partnering with the COO on major capital purchases while overseeing routine operational purchasing
Systems, SOPs & Operational Discipline
- Translate verbal instructions and recurring operational challenges into practical, documented SOPs, checklists, asset logs, and workplace workflows.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe physical environments across office, lab, and equipment storage spaces. Partner with executive leadership to evaluate and adopt modern task management, software, and AI automation tools to reduce administrative friction and improve efficiency.
Training, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain accurate personnel, training, and certification records, proactively scheduling renewals before expiration.
- Coordinate safety orientations, WorkSafe/WCB administration, policy acknowledgments, client safety requirements, and regulatory compliance. Ensure all workplace incidents, safety hazard reports, and policy infractions are thoroughly documented with corrective measures recorded.
Executive Partnership & Reporting
- Act as an operational anchor, helping protect executive capacity and keep strategic priorities focused.
- Maintain close daily alignment with the COO on resource planning, people needs, and operational deliverables.
- Lead weekly executive updates with the CEO and COO, providing visibility into operational stability, team progress, core KPIs, and recommended solutions to key roadblocks.
- Track record in people management, team supervision, HR workflows, or operational oversight.
- Experience establishing structure, workflows, or SOPs within a growing or evolving organization.
- Proven experience conducting structured performance management, continuous coaching, and handling difficult conversations.
- Experience overseeing physical assets, fleet management, or workplace compliance systems.
- Proficiency with modern team management tools, office software, and task management platforms (with openness to AI/automation).
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Industry Assets (Nice-to-Have):
Experience in consulting, environmental, engineering, construction, field operations, or project-based professional services (especially in environments with seasonal demands or physical equipment) is considered a strong asset.
How You Work
- A Reliable & Compassionate Leader: You lead with kindness, empathy, and steadiness, creating clarity and support while maintaining clear boundaries and high standards.
- An Operational Anchor: You notice where people, processes, or workflows could work better and take initiative to create practical structure, tools, and systems that make work easier and more effective.
