The Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) is the heart of operations on Sea Island. From the IOC, Airport Operations Dispatchers effectively uphold processes and procedures through a comprehensive understanding of emergency response, safety, security, maintenance, and customer service.
Position overview
We have full-time permanent opportunities for Airport Operations Dispatchers (AOD) in the Airport Operations Department, reporting to the Manager, Operations Centre. To be a successful AOD, you must be comfortable working in a high-pressure environment while handling significant amounts of information being received from a variety of sources at the same time. Exceptional verbal and written communication are essential to successfully dispatching during emergency events as well as day-to-day operations at YVR.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitor and utilize alarm systems, radios, phones, emails, and social media to dispatch and coordinate operational staff, maintenance, and emergency responders to maintain uninterrupted safety and security on Sea Island.
- Prioritize, delegate, and communicate to colleagues, internal and external department contractors, government agencies and stakeholders.
- Efficiently and accurately track detailed written information in relation to all operations on Sea Island
- Maintain an up-to-date comprehensive knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Incident Command in relation to processes airside, terminal-side, and groundside.
- Consistently multi-task and simultaneously manage multiple situations/emergencies whilst documenting in Maximo
- Respond to customer/general public inquires via e-mail, phone calls, TTY and social media
Key qualifications include:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a dispatcher/call-taker, or relevant aviation work experience, supplemented by a minimum of a high school diploma plus one or two years of post-secondary education; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
- Proficient in the English language both written and verbal is necessary; proficiency in another language is an asset
- Confidence working in a variety of computer programs is essential (Maximo, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Everbridge, Barco Sidebar, Adobe, etc.) and must have fast typing skills, strong grammar and accurate spelling
- Comfortable working in high pressure situations
- Capable of making quick decisions with limited information and prioritize subsequent tasks quickly without direction
- Must be confident, resilient, a strong multi-tasker, level-headed, team player and collaborator
Although not required, French language skills are an asset as we are committed to providing bilingual services to our visitors and passengers. Shift schedule with a mix of day, mid and night shifts will be required as this role supports the operation on a 24-hour basis, with a requirement to support winter operations for 24/7 operations. As an employee on a shifted work schedule, you will be eligible for shift and weekend premiums.

Salary Range : $71,560 to $93,525 per annum, based on a 37.5-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity.
