Full job description

Summary:

As a key member of the North Peel Family Health Team (NPFHT), the Kinesiologist helps clients to adapt different types of exercise activities that can help to improve cardiovascular endurance, increase muscular strength, power, and decrease risk of fall. The Kinesiologist also helps clients improve quality of life, sleeping habits, immune system function, and body composition.

The Kinesiologist’s primary role is to work in partnership with NPFHT Physicians and other allied health practitioners and support staff to perform patient care.

Accountability:

  • The Kinesiologist reports to, and is responsible to, the Executive Director. All clinical decision making outside the scope of the Kinesiologist must be done in consultation with physicians of NPFHT, non-affiliated physician partners and/or NPFHT medical directives.

Authority:

  • Does not direct the activities of staff or a function without direction of FHT decision makers. The Kinesiologist must comply with the kinesiology practice standards used by the College of Kinesiologist of Ontario.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assess patient health care needs (physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual) to identify appropriate interventions;
  • Analyze findings of a health assessment and take appropriate actions as required;
  • Collect data through a therapeutic relationship with a patient.
  • Help patients to identify and use health resources, including those available in the community and from community agencies;
  • Involve patients in decisions about their own health;
  • Encourage patients to take action for their own health;
  • Initiate health education and other activities that assist, promote and support patients as they strive to achieve the highest possible level of health;
  • Develop learning resources for kinesiologists and other health care providers;
  • Develop and deliver health education programs for patients or communities.
  • Collect accurate and comprehensive patient-related information and document in electronic medical record.

Interprofessional Collaboration:

  • Develop and hone collaborative community relationships to facilitate patient access to services upon physician/health care team request;
  • Communicate ideas or concerns to the health care team. Participate in problem solving to enhance patient care;
  • Assist in the training and development of new staff.

Practice Environment:

  • Use of personal protective equipment with all patients;
  • Maintain clean, orderly and well‐stocked inventory of medical supplies Assist with other related duties as required.

Education/Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology required
  • Registered Kinesiologist and in good standing with the College of Kinesiologist of Ontario required
  • Annual Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation certification
  • Minimum 1-year experience with rehabilitation exercise and manual therapy would be an asset

Skills/Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of kinesiology practice throughout the life span
  • Knowledge and understanding of geriatric syndromes, age related changes and rehabilitative medicine.
  • Able to identify, select, develop, and prescribe intervention strategies to maintain, rehabilitate, or enhance movement and performance based on assessment findings
  • Able to design customized exercise prescription for seniors with pathology, including but not limited to flexibility, strength, endurance, balance, and cardiopulmonary training; and corrective movement patterning
  • Demonstrate understanding of therapeutic modalities and treatment applications
  • Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork skills with the patient at the centre.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in current, evidence-based methods and practices of primary care delivery, with an emphasis on health promotion and risk reduction;
  • Demonstrated ability in problem solving using sound judgment and critical thinking;
  • Excellent communication skills in English (spoken, written, reading and comprehension)
  • Ability to prioritize, manage time effectively and be flexible in a very active constantly changing work environment

Pay: $75,500.00-$78,800.00 per year
