Full job description

Job Title: Remote Camp Cook — Exploration & Mining Camps (Travel Across Canada)

Company: Tilley Kitchen Job Type: Contract / Rotational (3-on / 2-off or similar — flexible) Pay: Competitive day rate, based on experience. Travel, accommodation, and meals fully covered while on site. Locations: Remote project sites across Canada

About the Role

We're hiring experienced cooks to join our team and run the kitchen at remote wall tent camps, typically serving 10–20 people per camp.

This role demands high adaptability and physical resilience; you must be comfortable cooking in non-traditional, demanding kitchen environments. You'll be flown into remote sites, often accessible only by helicopter or float plane, and you'll be responsible for feeding crews well, keeping the kitchen organized, and managing inventory and grocery orders using our digital systems.

What You'll Do

  • Plan, prep, and cook three meals plus snacks daily for exploration and drill crews
  • Bake fresh bread, baked goods, and treats that keep morale high in camp
  • Manage kitchen inventory and place grocery orders using our digital ordering system
  • Follow menu plans and food safety standards while adapting to what's available
  • Keep the kitchen, dining tent, and dry storage clean, organized, and bear-safe.

Who We're Looking For

You're a strong fit if you are:

  • Adaptable. Plans change. Weather grounds the helicopter. A grocery order is short an item. You roll with it and figure it out.
  • Organized. You can manage inventory, follow a menu plan, prep ahead, and keep a kitchen running smoothly without someone looking over your shoulder.
  • Self-sufficient. You're comfortable living and working in a wall tent camp, often without running water beyond what's pumped in.
  • A solid cook. You can put out hearty, varied, well-seasoned meals that crews actually look forward to — including dietary accommodations.
  • A team player. Small camps mean tight quarters. Attitude matters as much as skills.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of camp cooking experience
  • Food Safe Level 1 certification or provincial equivalent.
  • Valid passport or government-issued ID for travel within Canada
  • Physically able to lift 40 lbs, stand for long shifts, and work in a tent kitchen
  • Willing to work rotational shifts away from home (typically 2–4 weeks on at a time)
  • Comfortable in remote settings with wildlife (bears, etc.) and limited connectivity
  • Valid driver's license
  • Level 3 First Aid preferred. Other levels accepted.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Excel and other digital software.

Nice to Have

  • Bear awareness or wilderness first aid training
  • Previous remote camp, tree-planting camp, or lodge experience

Why Work With Us

  • Competitive day rates that reward your skills
  • All travel, lodging, and food are covered while on contract
  • Long stretches of time off between rotations
  • Work in some of the most beautiful, remote parts of Canada
  • Join a small, growing company where your input shapes how we operate
  • Opportunity for steady, repeat contracts as we grow

  • Your remote or camp cooking experience
