The Position:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Benefits and Disability Specialist to join our People & Culture team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing employee benefits programs, with additional focus on disability benefits. You will serve as a key resource for employees, guiding them through their benefits options, process and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
This position is based on a 37.5 hour work week, Monday to Friday with a scheduled lunch break.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health, dental, and disability insurance.
- Serve as the primary contact for employees regarding benefits inquiries and claims, providing exceptional customer service.
- Manage the disability benefits process, including short-term and long-term disability claims with support from a third-party adjudicator.
- Support leaders through employee disability claims and leaves, including the gradual return to work process.
- Process payroll adjustments for employees on leaves.
- Promote agency benefits through ongoing benefits education for employees, including conducting benefits orientation sessions for new hires.
- Send out communications to employees regarding their eligibility for benefits and savings/RSP plans.
- Assist in all benefits enrollment process and communicate changes effectively to employees.
- Manage all changes to benefits plans, including enrollment, termination, and coverage changes.
- Collaborate with insurance providers to resolve claims issues and enhance benefits offerings.
- Reconcile and remit payments for employee benefits and deductions.
- Ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations related to employee benefits and disability programs.
- Monitor and analyze benefits utilization to identify trends and make recommendations for program improvements.
- Manage invoices and send requisitions to Accounts.
- Manage year-end reports for Health/ Flex spending allocation.
- Manage all leaves- Maternity, Paternity, Personal, Medical and process ROEs accordingly.
- Assist OHS department with WCB claims when necessary.
Skills and Qualifications:
- A degree in a related field is preferred.
- Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), Group Benefits Associate (GPA) designation or Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) would be considered an asset.
- A minimum of three years of work experience in benefits administration.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- Experience with Avanti is an asset.
- High ethical standards and professionalism.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and time management skills, and ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent communication, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team setting in a fast-paced environment.
- Cross cultural competence; knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the recommendations, goals and activities of the commission.
- A Police Information Check, which includes a vulnerable sector search, is required (or is in process of being completed) prior to employment.
- A Child Intervention Record Check is required (or is in process of being completed) prior to employment.
