Position Overview

Gobind Sarvar School is seeking a passionate and creative Fine Arts / Drama Specialist to join our team for the 2026–2027 school year. The successful candidate will inspire students through visual arts, drama, theatre, and performance-based learning while fostering creativity, confidence, collaboration, and self-expression.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Alberta Fine Arts Curriculum, excellent classroom management skills, and the ability to create engaging learning experiences for students across multiple grade levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging Fine Arts and Drama lessons aligned with the Alberta Curriculum.
  • Foster creativity, artistic expression, and confidence through visual arts, theatre, and performance activities.
  • Plan and direct school productions, performances, assemblies, and arts showcases.
  • Adapt instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Create a supportive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
  • Assess student progress and provide meaningful feedback to support growth and achievement.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and school leadership to integrate arts across the curriculum.
  • Maintain effective classroom management practices that promote student engagement and success.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings, school events, professional development, and extracurricular activities.
  • Build strong partnerships with families and the broader school community.

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Candidates must possess or be eligible for an Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • The successful candidate will be required to submit a current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check within 30 days of employment.
  • Applicants must provide a professional reference letter from their most recent supervisor relevant to the position, written on company letterhead, signed, and dated within the last 12 months, or provide an updated list of references.
  • Recent or new graduates may submit their final practicum report in place of a reference letter.

Qualifications

  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate (required) or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Bachelor of Education, Fine Arts, Drama, Theatre Arts, Performing Arts, or a related field recognized by Alberta Education.
  • Minimum one year of recent classroom teaching experience in Canada preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the Alberta Program of Studies and Fine Arts curriculum.
  • Experience teaching Drama, Theatre, Visual Arts, or Performing Arts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to direct student performances and coordinate arts-related events.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and classroom management skills.
  • Commitment to professional growth and collaborative learning.
