Outreach & Network DevelopmentJob Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, energetic, and relationship-focused Registered Nurse – Community Outreach & Network Development to join the Big Hearts team in Calgary. This unique role combines professional nursing knowledge with community engagement, networking, outreach, and marketing.

The successful candidate will represent Big Hearts within the Calgary healthcare and community network, building meaningful relationships with physicians, clinics, hospitals, senior communities, social service organizations, allied health professionals, families, and other community partners.

This position is ideal for a nurse who enjoys working beyond the traditional clinical setting and is passionate about connecting people with quality healthcare services. The role will involve attending community events, visiting healthcare organizations and referral sources, introducing Big Hearts’ services, developing professional relationships, and helping increase awareness of our organization throughout the Calgary community.

Key ResponsibilitiesCommunity Outreach & Networking

  • Represent Big Hearts professionally within the Calgary healthcare and community services network.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with physicians, medical clinics, hospitals, discharge planners, social workers, case managers, senior living communities, rehabilitation facilities, pharmacies, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Visit community organizations, healthcare facilities, clinics, and potential referral partners to introduce Big Hearts and explain our services.
  • Identify opportunities to develop new community partnerships and referral relationships.
  • Attend networking events, healthcare conferences, community fairs, senior events, professional meetings, and other local activities.
  • Develop a strong understanding of healthcare resources and community services throughout Calgary and surrounding areas.
  • Maintain regular communication and follow-up with referral sources and community partners.

Healthcare & Nursing Support

  • Use nursing knowledge and clinical experience to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals, patients, families, and community organizations.
  • Educate potential referral partners and families about Big Hearts’ services and how we can support patients and their families.
  • Assist with understanding patient and family needs when appropriate.
  • Support care coordination and communication between patients, families, healthcare providers, and the Big Hearts team.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and compliance with applicable healthcare privacy and regulatory requirements.
  • Recognize situations requiring clinical follow-up and communicate appropriately with the clinical team.

Marketing & Business Development

  • Help increase awareness of Big Hearts throughout Calgary through professional networking and community outreach.
  • Develop and distribute appropriate educational and promotional materials to healthcare and community organizations.
  • Assist with creating presentations, informational sessions, community education events, and outreach campaigns.
  • Identify potential referral opportunities and communicate them to management.
  • Support social media, community newsletters, educational content, and other marketing initiatives when appropriate.
  • Gather feedback from community partners and help identify opportunities to improve Big Hearts’ services and community presence.
  • Track outreach activities, contacts, meetings, referrals, and partnership opportunities.
  • Work with leadership to develop strategies for expanding Big Hearts’ presence within the Calgary healthcare community.

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license/registration in Alberta and in good standing with the appropriate regulatory body.
  • Previous hospital, community, home care, long-term care, hospice, rehabilitation, or other healthcare experience.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare systems, patient needs, and interdisciplinary care.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
  • Comfortable speaking with physicians, healthcare executives, clinic managers, social workers, families, community leaders, and other professionals.
  • Confident presenting information and introducing healthcare services to organizations and community groups.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple relationships, outreach activities, and follow-ups.
  • Comfortable working independently in the community and traveling to meetings, clinics, facilities, and events throughout Calgary.
  • Professional, outgoing, approachable, and comfortable representing an organization in public settings.
  • Basic understanding of marketing, community outreach, referral development, or business development is an asset.
  • Experience in healthcare networking, sales, marketing, community relations, or referral development is highly desirable.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a people-oriented nurse who enjoys connecting with others and building relationships. You should be comfortable stepping outside of a traditional clinical environment, meeting new people, attending events, visiting healthcare organizations, and confidently explaining what Big Hearts has to offer.

We are looking for someone who can combine clinical credibility with strong communication, networking, and community-building skills.

You don't need to be a traditional salesperson. Instead, you should be passionate about healthcare, comfortable starting conversations, able to build trust, and genuinely interested in helping patients, families, and healthcare professionals find the right support.

What You'll Bring to Big Hearts

  • A compassionate and patient-centered approach.
  • Professional nursing knowledge and credibility.
  • A strong community presence and willingness to network.
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Confidence representing Big Hearts to healthcare and community organizations.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for outreach and marketing.
  • A proactive approach to identifying new opportunities.
  • Commitment to building long-term relationships rather than simply generating referrals.

Why Join Big Hearts?

At Big Hearts, you will have the opportunity to combine your nursing experience with community engagement and professional networking to help expand access to compassionate healthcare services.

Your work will directly contribute to building partnerships, increasing awareness of Big Hearts, connecting families with appropriate services, and strengthening our presence throughout the Calgary community.
