Zurich Canada is currently looking for a Financial Lines Claims Counsel to handle claims specific to Cyber, Crime, D&O, E&O, EPL, and Environmental policies.
Reporting to the AVP Financial Lines Claims Manager, you will follow established protocols to ensure claims are managed efficiently and effectively, always delivering a customer-centric claims service.

Zurich Canada uses artificial intelligence–enabled tools to support certain aspects of the recruitment process, including the initial review and screening of applications. Zurich follows a hybrid work model requiring three days per week of in-person presence, which may include time in the office or market-facing engagements.
What you will do
- Review claim documents and investigate to analyze coverage, liability, and damages
- Draft coverage position correspondence addressing liability and damages, and communicate coverage with insureds, brokers, business units, insurance tower, mediators, and judges as necessary
- Deliver exceptional customer service by building and maintaining relationships with customers, brokers, and external partners
- Ensure claim and file management complies with Zurich Best Practices and insurance regulatory frameworks
- Proactively manage litigated files through internal and external counsel
- Prepare and develop strategy for resolution of claims, ensuring timely and appropriate reserves
- Attend and participate in hearings, mediations, and settlement conferences
- Provide claims insights to assist business units and collaborate with underwriters to identify trends and claim issues
- Protect Zurich’s reputation by keeping claims information confidential
Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table
- Juris Doctor and 5 or more years of experience in the Legal area
- JD and 5 or more years of legal practice experience in the insurance area
- Must obtain and maintain required adjuster license(s)
- Experience in insurance claims and the insurance legal and regulatory environment
- Negotiation experience
- Customer service experience
- Microsoft Office experience
Preferred:
- Juris Doctor and 5 or more years of experience in the Legal area and in the insurance industry
- Member of the bar
- Detail oriented
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Time management and prioritization
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Collaboration and teamwork
- Adaptability and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

At Zurich Canada, we are committed to pay equity. We determine compensation based on objective criteria such as skills, experience, and internal equity. The salary range for this position is $108,000 - $174,000. This range reflects the expected pay for the role across Canada and may vary depending on factors like office location, specific responsibilities, and individual qualifications. As required by local law, Zurich provides in good faith a reasonable compensation range, but starting salaries may exceed this range based on a candidate’s skills and experience.
