Ice ’n Cake is a European-inspired gelateria and café located at CF Shops at Don Mills. We specialize in specialty coffee, handcrafted gelato, pastries, desserts, and exceptional guest experiences.

We're looking for an experienced, reliable, and customer-focused Senior Barista who is passionate about coffee, hospitality, and creating exceptional guest experiences. This is more than a traditional barista role—our team members support all areas of the café and play an important role in creating memorable experiences for our guests.

Position Summary

As a Senior Barista & Café Team Member, you will prepare high-quality beverages, deliver exceptional customer service, and support the day-to-day operations of the café while maintaining our standards of quality, consistency, and hospitality.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys staying busy, takes initiative, and wants to grow with an independent and evolving business.

Responsibilities

• Prepare espresso-based beverages, teas, iced drinks, frappés, hot chocolate, and other specialty menu items according to company recipes and standards.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and create a warm, welcoming experience for every guest.
• Serve gelato, pastries, cakes, desserts, and light food items as needed.
• Confidently answer guest questions and make thoughtful recommendations.
• Maintain consistency in beverage quality, presentation, and service standards.
• Operate the Square POS system and accurately process transactions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked café and barista station.
• Complete opening and closing procedures, including cleaning, restocking, equipment care, and daily checklists.
• Assist with inventory monitoring and communicate low-stock items or operational concerns to management.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, allergen-awareness, and workplace health and safety standards.
• Support team members during busy periods and assist wherever needed.
• Contribute ideas and feedback for new drinks, recipes, and seasonal offerings.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of barista, café, restaurant, or specialty coffee experience preferred.
• Experience operating and cleaning a commercial espresso machine is a strong asset.
• Passion for coffee, desserts, and hospitality.
• Friendly, professional, and customer-focused.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality and consistency.
• Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.
• Comfortable working evenings, weekends, holidays, and late closing shifts.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
• Food Handler Certification is an asset.

Reliability, punctuality, and strong communication are essential for success in this role.

Schedule & Availability

• Part-time permanent position.
• Approximately 15–30 hours per week.
• Evening and closing shifts required.
• Weekend and holiday availability required.
• Must be available to work a minimum of two shifts per week, including at least one evening or weekend shift.
• Flexibility during our busiest periods, particularly Thursday through Sunday afternoons and evenings, is strongly preferred.
