AVSS is expanding its product offerings with new products and end-to-end solutions for dual-use applications. These new products and end-to-end solutions include energetic delivery systems for avalanche mitigation, motors for small drones, and threat detection systems for ground robots.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Develop industrial design concepts for new aerospace, robotics, and autonomous vehicle products
• Translate user, business, and engineering requirements into functional and compelling product designs
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed product designs
• Develop concepts from early sketches and prototypes through to production-ready designs
• Create product concepts, sketches, renderings, mockups, and presentation materials to communicate design intent
• Design products with a strong focus on usability, ergonomics, durability, manufacturability, and serviceability
• Participate in user research and translate user feedback into product and design improvements
• Develop physical prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting, and other rapid-prototyping methods
• Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) activities
• Assist with material and component selection based on performance, cost, appearance, and manufacturability
• Support testing and validation of new products and design changes
• Identify opportunities to improve existing products based on customer feedback, testing, manufacturing experience, and field use

Qualifications and Skills

Need to have:

• 3+ years of product development experience.
• At least a post-secondary degree with a focus in the field of studies of mechanical engineering.
• Additionally, they must have experience with the necessary commercialization tools (e.g., 3d printer, CNC machining, AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
• Excellent English communications (written and verbal) to communicate effectively with peers and stakeholders across the organization
• Choice ownership
• A passion for learning

Nice to have:

• A background in aerospace and/or automotive manufacturing
• Experience with embedded systems, industrial product development
• Strong interest and desire to learn about autonomous vehicle technologies
• Collaborative contributions or side projects demonstrating a desire to hone your craft
• Working in an office and a distributed workforce environment
• Excellent time-management, multi-tasking, and communication skills
