About the Role

As our Senior Family Law Clerk, you will be responsible for independently managing family law files from intake through resolution while working closely with the firm's lawyers.

You will be expected to take ownership of your files, maintain excellent client communication, prepare court materials with minimal supervision, and ensure all matters progress efficiently and professionally.

This is a senior-level position requiring sound judgment, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and extensive knowledge of Ontario family law procedures.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have:

  • Minimum five (5) years of recent Ontario Family Law Clerk experience (required).
  • Thorough knowledge of the Family Law Rules, Family Law Act, Divorce Act, Children's Law Reform Act, and related legislation.

  • Affidavits
  • Financial Statements
  • Net Family Property Statements
  • Case Conference Briefs
  • Settlement Conference Briefs
  • Trial Management Conference Briefs

  • Offers to Settle
  • Minutes of Settlement

  • Divorce materials
  • Experience filing documents electronically through the Ontario Courts portal.
  • Experience independently managing files from opening through closing.
  • Excellent drafting, proofreading, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal practice management software (Clio experience is considered an asset).
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Independently managing Family Law files from opening to closing.
  • Preparing pleadings, court documents, legal correspondence, and settlement documentation.
  • Drafting Financial Statements, conference briefs, motion materials, affidavits, and other court documents.
  • Preparing and filing court materials electronically.
  • Maintaining limitation periods, court deadlines, calendars, and diarization systems.
  • Communicating professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, experts, and third parties.
  • Assisting lawyers with mediation, conferences, motions, and trial preparation.
  • Scheduling client meetings, court attendances, and lawyer calendars.
  • Maintaining organized electronic and physical files.
  • Providing exceptional client service throughout each file.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
