Dawson Group is looking for a skilled Manager, Health Safety and Environment to drive safety initiatives, support our teams, and contribute to safely connecting the communities we serve.

In this role, you will be a valued member of Dawson Group, working as a Manager, Health Safety and Environment reporting to the VP, Operations. The successful candidate will help lead Dawson Group toward an enhanced culture of safety among our employees and contractors. While our office is located in Kamloops, BC, travel will be required throughout our great province.


WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Foster a culture where the safety and well-being of employees, contractors, and the public remain a top organizational priority
  • Provide visible leadership and strategic direction for Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) programs, reinforcing accountability and continuous improvement across all business units
  • Partner with operational leaders to enhance safety leadership capabilities through coaching, mentorship, and performance development
  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing evolution of corporate HSE strategies, policies, standards, and management systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
  • Establish and oversee enterprise-wide risk management processes, ensuring hazards are proactively identified, assessed, and mitigated across operations
  • Direct HSE auditing, inspection, and assurance activities, leveraging findings to drive corrective actions and strengthen operational performance
  • Oversee incident management processes, ensuring thorough investigations, timely corrective actions, effective reporting, and continuous learning from events
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to establish measurable HSE objectives, monitor performance metrics, and drive strategic improvement initiatives
  • Serve as the primary organizational representative for HSE matters with regulatory agencies, industry associations, customers, and other external stakeholders
  • Lead emergency preparedness and business resilience initiatives to ensure organizational readiness and effective response capabilities
  • Promote employee engagement and participation in HSE programs while fostering a culture of shared responsibility and accountability for safety
  • Provide regular reporting and strategic recommendations to senior leadership on HSE performance, emerging risks, compliance matters, and improvement opportunities

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field; Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation, Certified Safety Professional, or other recognized professional designation preferred
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive HSE experience, with at least two (2) years in a management role within heavy civil construction, mining, oil/gas, or major infrastructure
  • Lead and mentor a team of HSE Advisors across multiple project sites and companies
  • Experience developing and managing programs aligned with certification standards such as OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety, ISO 14001 Environmental Management, and WorkSafeBC Certificate of Recognition
  • Demonstrate and apply comprehensive knowledge of the BC Mine Code, WorkSafeBC regulations, environmental permits, client safety specifications, and applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation to ensure safe and compliant operations
  • Monitor project construction environmental management plans to ensure conformance and risk mitigation
  • Strong working knowledge of HSE management systems and industry best practices
  • Proven leadership ability with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to influence, motivate, and lead teams in a fast-paced operational environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and common business software applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of fieldwork, including navigating active construction sites, carrying equipment, and working outdoors in all seasons
