This role involves close coordination with dispatchers, drivers, and customers to ensure service quality, cost efficiency, and operational control across all LTL and FTL movements.

Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Oversee all day-to-day transportation functions including dispatch, routing, load planning, and driver scheduling.
  • Manage utilization of tractors, trailers, and owner-operators across Canada and the U.S.
  • Review and approve daily trip plans to maximize fleet efficiency, cube utilization, and on-time delivery performance (OTD%).

  • Monitor inbound/outbound volume and balance capacity according to demand.
  • Coordinate with maintenance to ensure equipment availability and PM schedules are aligned with dispatch requirements.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor dispatchers, planners, and coordinators in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Provide daily direction and performance feedback; conduct reviews to measure dispatch accuracy, response time, and driver productivity.

Regulatory Compliance & Safety

  • Enforce compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and CVOR standards.
  • Ensure full adherence to ELD and Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
  • Monitor driver logs, violations, and compliance reports through ELD systems.
  • Maintain proper audit documentation and ensure fleet files remain up to date.

  • Monitor driver performance using telematics platforms (Samsara, Geotab, etc.).
  • Lead process improvements through data analysis and automation initiatives.
  • Ensure operational data accuracy for reporting and KPI measurement.

KPI Tracking & Cost Control

  • Analyze operational performance through key indicators such as on-time delivery rate, cost per mile, fuel usage, and driver efficiency.
  • Manage and control operating budgets to maintain profitability and service excellence.
  • Identify and implement measures to reduce empty miles, fuel costs, and detention time.

Customer & Cross-Department Coordination

  • Partner with customer service, brokerage, and accounting teams to ensure shipment visibility and timely updates.
  • Handle escalations related to service delays or special freight requests.
  • Support the sales team with operational input for new lane opportunities and capacity planning.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in transportation, fleet management, or logistics operations, with 3+ years in a leadership role.
  • Strong command of LTL, FTL, and cross-border trucking operations.
  • Proven expertise with TMS platforms (Loadlink, Fleet Manager, Rose Rocket, Tailwind, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of driver compliance, ELD monitoring, HOS regulations, and CVOR standards.
  • Experience in managing both company drivers and owner-operators.
  • Strong analytical ability to interpret KPI data, cost structures, and route performance.
  • Working knowledge of fuel surcharge models, load profitability, and rate confirmation processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and report building for operational analysis.
  • Excellent leadership, decision-making, and communication skills under pressure.
  • Diploma or degree in Transportation, Supply Chain, or Business Operations preferred.
