Job Summary


The Dr. Gupta Laboratory in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of British Columbia is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join a multidisciplinary research program investigating the molecular mechanisms and treatment of ocular and neurodegenerative diseases.


The successful candidate will lead and contribute to innovative research projects using molecular, cellular, and immunological approaches, with opportunities to work with human samples, stem cell-derived systems, and animal models. The position offers an excellent environment for scientific development, collaboration, mentorship, and career advancement in academia or industry.


Organizational Status


The Postdoctoral Fellow will report directly to Dr. Neeru Gupta and work closely with research associates, research staff, students, and collaborators within the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.


Work Performed:


  • Design, plan, and conduct independent research projects.
  • Perform and optimize molecular, cellular, and immunological experiments.
  • Analyze, interpret, and present experimental data.
  • Prepare manuscripts, figures, presentations, and assist with grant applications.
  • Develop and implement new laboratory methods and experimental protocols.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to students and research staff.
  • Present research findings at laboratory meetings and scientific conferences.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external research partners.
  • Perform other related duties as required.


Minimum Qualifications:


Successful applicants will have
:


  • A recent PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong experimental research experience and a record of scientific productivity.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular and cellular biology research techniques is required.
  • Experience with stem cells, organoids, advanced imaging, animal models, or translational research is considered an asset.

Works independently under the general supervision of Dr. Neeru Gupta.


Supervision Given


May provide mentorship and technical guidance to undergraduate and graduate students, research assistants, and trainees.
