Full job description

Alexis Caulier’s laboratory is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong research
experience to join our collaborative effort in investigating the genetic determinants of normal and
malignant blood cells production.

Environment: The Caulier Lab is a new independent research group located at the Lady Davis
Institute for Medical Research of the Jewish General Hospital University Health Centre, affiliated
to the prestigious McGill University, in Montreal, Canada. Our research integrates creative
functional approaches with cutting-edge genome-engineering strategies to functionally
understand how genetic variation shapes the production of blood cells and impacts our risk to
develop blood disorders. The scope of our hybrid research program covers hematopoietic stem
cell biology, human genetics, disease modeling, genome engineering, along with computational
workflows to understand genetics at single-cell resolution.

Job description: The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work on ambitious
experimental research projects with the principal investigator (PI) of the lab, other members,
and collaborators (60% of the time) while directly assisting the PI in maintaining operations in
the laboratory (40%). As a key member of a new laboratory, the candidate will participate in
optimizing laboratory systems and contribute to building a collaborative and supportive research
environment.

Experimental research projects may involve – but are not restricted to – the culture and
differentiation of human hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells, genome editing/engineering,
flow cytometry, molecular biology, preparation of next-generation and single-cell sequencing
libraries, xenotransplantation models, and analysis of primary patient samples. The candidate
will receive appropriate training based on their prior experience and interests.

Laboratory management responsibilities may include – but are not restricted to – ordering and
maintaining laboratory supplies, organizing reagents and samples, communicating with vendors
and purchase departments, coordinating equipment maintenance, maintaining laboratory
records and regulatory documentation, developing organizational systems and standard
operating procedures, and assisting with the onboarding of future laboratory members.

Background/Training: A Ph.D. degree is required, preferably with formal training in molecular
biology, human genetics, cell biology, or a related field. The candidate must present with solid
organizational and interpersonal skills, and a proven track record in research including peer
reviewed publications. Experience with cell culture, flow cytometry, sequencing technologies, or
genome editing is preferred. Additionally, experience with computational biology would be of
great value but is not required.

Details: This is a full-time, 35-hour-per-week, in-person position with competitive salary and
benefits. The anticipated start date is January 2027. We see tremendous value and strength in
bringing together individuals with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences and are
committed to building a positive and supportive laboratory environment. Compensation will be
assessed based on previous training and experience by the LDI Human Resources Department.

Due to the location and affiliations of the laboratory, this position will allow the selected
candidate to have meaningful interactions with top-tier scientists and clinicians at the Lady
Davis Institute for Medical Research, the Jewish General Hospital University Health Centre, and
the broad biomedical research community in Montreal.

Application process: Please send a full application including (1) a cover letter detailing your
background and interests, explaining how you would be a good fit for the position, (2) a
curriculum vitae including your training, scientific achievements and peer-reviewed publications,
(3) two to three reference letters. Full application can be sent to alexis.caulier@mcgill.ca or
alexis.caulier@ladydavis.ca.

Benefits and Additional Notes:

As a full-time employee paid by research funds, you are entitled to the following benefits:

Annual Vacation Days

Sick Days

Statutory Holidays

Group Insurance Plan

Pension Plan: By virtue of the Act respecting the Government and Public Employees
Retirement Plan you will be contributing to the Government and Public Employees Retirement
Plan (RREGOP).
