We are seeking a highly motivated R&D Engineer – Optical Fiber Development to join our photonics research and development team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, fabrication, and characterization of advanced specialty optical fibers for large range of applications.

This position offers the opportunity to work on innovative specialty optical fiber technologies while contributing to the development and optimization of manufacturing processes from concept through prototype validation.

  • Design and optimize optical fiber structures to achieve targeted optical and mechanical performance.
  • Analyze and interpret simulation results to support fiber design improvements.
  • Develop innovative fiber architectures for specialty applications.
  • Participate in the development of novel specialty optical fibers.
  • Define technical specifications and performance requirements for new fiber products.
  • Support prototype fabrication and evaluate fiber performance against design objectives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to transition designs from research to production.
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of fiber manufacturing processes, including preform fabrication, fiber drawing, coating, and post-processing operations.
  • Analyze process parameters and identify opportunities to improve product performance, quality, and manufacturing yield.
  • Support technology scale-up from laboratory development to industrial production.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to process robustness and efficiency.
  • Perform optical, geometrical, and mechanical characterization of fibers.
  • Operate and maintain optical measurement and testing equipment.
  • Analyze experimental data and prepare technical reports.
  • Troubleshoot fiber performance issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Document research findings and development activities.
  • Contribute to technical publications, patents, and intellectual property generation.
  • Stay informed of advances in fiber optics, photonics, and related technologies.
  • Support collaborations with industrial partners, customers, and research institutions.
  • All other related tasks.

We are seeking a candidate with the following qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Photonics, Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Hold 5+ years experience in optical fiber design, photonics, or optical communications.
  • Hands-on experience with optical laboratory testing and characterization is highly desirable.
  • Experience with specialty optical fiber development is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of fiber optics, waveguide theory, and photonics.
  • Knowledge with simulation and modeling tools such as COMSOL Multiphysics, RSoft, Lumerical, MATLAB, or Python.
  • Understanding of optical fiber fabrication and process development principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Proficiency in French and English.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with a passion for innovation and technology development.
