Actuonix Motion Devices specializes in micro linear actuators and servos designed to simplify the engineering process for product designers. Our wide range of micro actuators is tailored to suit various projects. We assist OEM companies in developing motion-enabled products that accommodate continuously shrinking sizes and shapes.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Mechanical or Mechatronics Design Engineer located in Victoria, BC. We are looking for a mechanical designer with 3-5 years experience in the complete product design lifecycle. You will be involved with everything from dealing with the customers to determine requirements, conceptual design, component sourcing, prototyping, pre-production manufacturing, design validation and testing, transition to offshore volume production, quality monitoring and problem resolution.

  • You will be 3D modelling and creating drawings for custom actuator parts required by customers.
  • You will be 3D printing or machining prototype parts and testing them for suitability as products.
  • You will learn how to inspect parts using metrology instruments to adjust tolerances on our production drawings.
  • You will also be involved in testing our products for performance and reliability.
  • You will be required to design and build various test rigs and fixtures used to inspect parts or assemblies during IQC.
  • You will be diagnosing failed actuator from customers for root cause and making suggestions to improve quality
  • You will be visiting our manufacturing operation in China and working with them to improve quality and fix problems

Qualifications

  • 3D CAD modelling and 2D drawing creation experience is essential to this job. We can train you in CREO. Please show us some production drawings you have completed.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods like machining, turning, punching and plastic injection moulding is vital to your success. Please show us the plastic parts you have designed.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a Technology Diploma with related experience.
  • Experience in a small tech company and related industry is a plus
  • Experience with tolerances, inspection methods and metrology would be a definite bonus, along with knowledge of how a quality system works.
  • Experience with PMDC and Stepper motors is desired
  • Experience programming with Arduino or Raspberry Pi is desired
  • Mechanical experience with hand tools, milling machine, lathe and 3D printer an asset.
  • Experience with diagnosis and repair of electronics would be an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written English is required.
  • Fluency in mandarin would be helpful.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in Canada. And must be in Canada for an interview.
